ticklemeozmo
I just received my SmartThings package and confused as to how to link it to my current ISY99iZ. The SmartThings hub is capable of speaking Zigbee, so was curious if I could link them in some fashion to either a) extend the range of my network, or have some cross-pollination of devices for an uber-automated home. Has anyone tried this yet? Link to comment
Michel Kohanim
Hi ticklemeozmo, You can not. With kind regards, Michel Link to comment
ticklemeozmo
So then what is the purpose of the ZigBee module and how do I use it? The SmartThings are ZigBee devices, how do I register them (or any other ZigBee device) with the ISY? Link to comment
Michel Kohanim
Hi ticklemozmo, I am so very sorry but we have explicit information in 994iZ Series as far as devices that are supported: http://www.universal-devices.com/commer ... -z-series/. Furthermore, there are 100s of different types of Zigbee devices each one of which uses a different profile or proprietary protocol. In short, just because something is Zigbee it does not mean that it'll work with anything else Zigbee (actually, in the case of Zigbee, the reverse is more true). arw01
If the thing hub can take url requests and respond back with rest, you can rig up a bi-directional communications method. Your exact issue is why I am pretty much all insteon. My non insteon I am passing through a raspberry Pi, which subscribes to the ISY and watches for variable changes and can make rest calls to change variables on the ISY for it to respond. There are enhancements coming on the ISY for 2 way Ip based communications someday. Alan Link to comment
