ISY-26 or ISY-99i?

I am considering purchasing a ISY-26 as recommended by someone who has one. Upon finding the Universal Devices web site it seems you are migrating to a newer series of devices named ISY-99i. Can you tell me if there is any reason why the ISY-99i would not work as well as the ISY-26? Only difference I can see is that the ISY-99i doesn't

need a power supply because it draws its power from the Powerlink modem. Is the ISY-99i line going to replace the ISY-26 line?

James,

Apart from the IR input capability (99i/IR) and extra memory on the PRO only, ISY-26 and 99i have the same exact functionality.

99i is the replacement for 26.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel,

The 99i description page, http://www.universal-devices.com/99i.htm, states: Is powered through the PowerLinc Modem (PLM) and thus does not require an external power supply.

What does that mean? The instructions for the 99i states that you still plug the power supply into the wall and connect it to the 99i.

Please advise.

I have a 26i and am trying to decide if the power source is a reason to upgrade to the 99i.

The ISY-26 requires an AC adapter to provide power to the unit.

The ISY-99 still has the jack for an AC adapter, but power is typically provided to it by the PLM. Basically, plug the PLM into a wall outlet, and plug the ISY into the PLM using a standard Cat5 cable. That's it - no AC adapter needed.

alfatud,

99i is powered through the PLM. Is this the only reason that you would like to upgrade to 99i?

With kind regards,

Michel
