Issues with I/OLinc

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to program my I/O Linc device. I am able to get it synced with my ISY994i. The problem is after I get it linked up, I go to click the ON button, my garage door opens up and then I can't close the garage door. I try to click the ON button again and then both the sensor and the relay show up as unavailable and can't talk back to the ISY device. Any ideas as to why this is occuring how to fix it? I have the EZFlora Controller and I didn't have any issues getting that to work.

Thanks,

Chris

Make sure the I/O Linc is configured for one of the Momentary modes. Check the White LED on the side of the I/O Linc. If it remains bright White after pressing On the I/O Linc is not in Momentary mode. It is the equivalent of pressing and holding the manual door opener button.

I checked all of that and white LED does not remain bright, it is dimmed out. I ran through the steps to set the device into momentary mode by pressing and holding the set button until it beeps three times in a row, and then repeated this process in two more sets doing the same thing. Still, all I can do is open up the garage but can not close it. Any other ideas?

First the I/O Linc should be configured through the Admin Console rather than the Set button.

Run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3. Open the garage door, and then attempt to close it. Post the event trace covering the open and attempt to close.

Here's the log: I tried both to click ON and OFF multiple times with no success. Once the garage door opens, the console fails to recognize the device.

Overall communication to and from the I/O Linc is very poor. Even though the door opened it took three tries to get the command to the I/O Linc. When the door moved and the Sensor changed state the message for that state change has Max Hops=3 Hops Left=0 with is as bad as it gets and still function.

You mentioned an EZFlora is working. Is that located in the garage on the same circuit as the I/O Linc?

How are the other Insteon devices working? Trying to get a sense of whether this is a problem specific to the I/O Linc circuit or something more general. How far is the garage from the PLM location? Are Access Points used to couple the 120v legs and have they passed the 4 tap Set button test?

The EZFlora is acutally located in the basement near the PLM location and the I/O Linc is on a separate circuit from the PLM. I do have one Access Point, and that is in the garage. I am wondering now if I need to get that on a different circuit or something. In terms of the 4 tap set button test, I have not ever tried that. Is that something that I should do next and should I perhaps re-locate the Access Point to a different location within my house? The EZFlora is the only other Insteon device that I own at this time.

It looks like the Access Point is not providing any function. Neither the EZFlora nor the I/O Linc are Dual Band so the only device the Access Point could be talking to is the 2413 Dual Band PLM. Tap the Set button on the PLM 4 times. That should put it into the test mode that sends out an RF test signal. Look at the status LED on the Access Point. It will be blinking Green if in RF range and on the opposite 120v leg. If the I/O Linc is on the opposite 120v leg to the PLM circuit then moving the Access Point to a plug point on the I/O Linc circuit in the basement might improve communication with the I/O Linc. Suggest reading the Access Point user guide for information on the 4 tap Set button test. It will describe the reaction of the Access Point status LED under the various conditions.

So I was able to figure out the issue with this. It was indeed a communication issue as mentioned in this thread. I ended up moving the PLM to a different location within my house and I am getting a very good response from the system now. I think I simply had too much stuff plugged in on the circuit in my house where the PLM was located. So, this issue has been resolved. Now, I have a new random issue that was wondering if I could get some help with....

In addition to the universal device system, I also am using the X10 system within my house for turning lights on and off in various areas of my house. On occasion, when I go to turn on a light with my X10 remote, for example #3 (turns on under the counter lights in my kitchen), my sprinklers (zone #3) turns on outside... My sprinkler system controller is the EZFlora. This is completely random and doesn't occur all of the time. What setting(s) should I be looking at within the Universal Device console to prevent that system from communicating with the X10 devices?

Thanks!

I am unaware of any setting that would disable X-10 capability. One can disable programs that include x-10 devices, but that is all that I can think to do.
