Geotaging not working in IOS 7?

Hi All… this is my first post, so please be gentle :D

I have an ISY994i and have been use MobiLinc Pro to control from outside the home. My wife and I just recently downloaded IOS 7 for our iPhones. Prior to upgrading, the Geotaging function was working great… our system would turn on/off certain lights and adjust our thermostats based on whether one(both) of us were home or not. For some reason, the ISY now only recognizes my proximity, but not my wife’s.

I have triple checked all the settings in each of our phones, and they are identical. Only difference here is that I have an iPhone 5 and she has an iPhone 4. I have even tried deleting/re-coding all the related programs in the ISY and re-creating the variables. Regardless, I am detected and she is not. I would also note that I can see her in the Find My iPhone app. This all sounds specific to her phone.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Is this related to the IM bug that I have been reading about on the web? Any advice?

Hi jonnyauto-

First, I think you mean geofencing as geotagging is a method for tagging data with a location - commonly used with photos.

As for the geofence in Mobilinc, go into the iOS settings, General, Privacy, Location Services and make sure Mobilinc is turned on there. Next Settings, General, Background App Refresh and make sure Mobilinc is enabled here.

Next, go into Mobilinc settings, Location Settings. Turn on Notify On Boundary and make sure you have one or more locations listed below.

Now, move into and out of the locations and see if Mobilinc notifies you of the boundary crossings.

Dunno what the IM bug you referred to is. - Must not be affecting me.

I am having the exact same problem. My iPhone is a 5 and my wife's is a 4S. Other than that everything that was described by jonnyauto is happening to me. I'm not sure if makes a difference, but the MobiLinc app on my phone and her phone or both purchased using my Apple ID. I was too cheap to pay another five dollars just for to put on her phone, which I know she doesn't any use for anything other then setting location variables. It was working perfectly for sometime then it just stopped. Not sure if it was due to iOS upgrade or something else. It's very frustrating. I tried all the same things that jonnyauto has tried.

I did make sure that the app had exes to location settings on the iPhone. I also make sure that it had access to background refreshing. I'm not sure what else I can check. Does anybody have any other additional ideas or troubleshooting steps?

Hi rvandersteen. In the end, I ended up doing a full wipe of my wife's phone and then set it up as a new phone. It was actually fairly easy to do and it worked.

The only thing she lost in the process was her old texts. Her emails and calendar remained in tact, as that was through Google. I know Apple just released another update... That may be a solution (or a new problem... We are waiting before updating).

I hope this helps.

If you go to the Mobilinc website

there is a clause now shown in red text that says the following:

NOTE: If you are using iOS 7 you must allow MobiLinc to run in the background. If you remove MobiLinc from the task tray iOS will NOT relaunch MobiLinc on region crossing. This is a deliberate change by Apple in iOS 7 from how geofencing used to work in iOS 6.

Also in iOS 7 Background Refresh is a controllable option under the iOS settings. Background Refresh also controls whether geo-fencing notifications will be delivered to apps. In order for geo-fencing to work with MobiLinc, Background Refresh must be allowed (tuned ON) for MobiLinc.

This is a drag if you ask me. It was one of the great benefits of Mobilinc to not have to remember to have Moblinc running in the background. Now I'll never get my wife and kids to use it, so my ISY programs will all be thrown off. :(

So are you saying that in order for MobiLinc to properly update the ISY with location information, you simply need to leave the app open in iOS? So in iOS7, never double tab the home button and swipe up to close the app?

If that's true (I still need to test it), then it's not that big of a deal. Just need to tell my wife not to manually close the app...

Correct rvandersteen. You're right, it's not a big deal until your wife or kids accidentally close it and forget to leave it running. Then the routines in your house are suddenly not working right because it thinks that no one is home, when someone actually is. Or vica versa. This has happened to me and I get the, "Oh yeah, I forgot from my daughter". Just saying, it's not fullproof and passive anymore.
