Eddie Reed Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Sorry if this is not the correct place to post, but I need advice. I currently use the 99i Pro Controller and am seeking a programmable (compatible) thermostats (multiple thermostats) to use with it. The documentation on currently available thermostats is vague and state they are Insteon compatible. But, lack sufficient documentation to give me a "Warm Fuzzy" feeling. My house is entirely Insteon and I really don't wish to move to the X10 world. What I basically want is a couple of thermostats that I can do control over with my 99i. Desirable features are: 1. Ability to query the current temperature at the thermostat location via the 99i controller. 2. Ability to set the system to cool or heat as required via 99i controller and set the desired temp to maintain. Is something like this available. I appreciate all assistance. Eddie
MikeB Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 The Venstar T1700, T1800 and T1900 thermostats are the only Insteon-compatible thermostats currently available. You add Insteon capabilities with this adapter: http://www.smarthome.com/2441v.html
GPG Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I have some questions regarding temperature monitoring: 1- To just monitor the current temperature via the internet could the T1700 + Insteon Adapter be used, if powered by a 24v AC transformer? I would prefer to have my existing thermostat control the heating/cooling system. 2- Is it necessary to have an ISY program constantly running and doing a query on the thermostat (say every 15 minutes, for example) ? 3- If you were to log in remotely where does the current value of the temperature show up? Does it show up under Devices or do you have to go to the Administrative Console? thanks, George
MikeB Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 2- Is it necessary to have an ISY program constantly running and doing a query on the thermostat (say every 15 minutes, for example) ? Yes. The current Thermostat Adapter does not automatically send out status changes, so the ISY must periodically query it to know its current status. 3- If you were to log in remotely where does the current value of the temperature show up? Does it show up under Devices or do you have to go to the Administrative Console? It is listed under Devices in the HTML interface.
GPG Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Thanks for the Mike. I received the T1700 and Insteon Adapter and set it up using an external 24v AC transformer. I can now monitor the house temperature when away from home and where necessary run/stop programs. It's a little expensive for a thermometer, but it works very well. And I still have the option of using T1700 for its intended purpose. -George.
Eddie Reed Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Your comments answered most of my questions. I am going to order a couple of the T1700's today. Appreciate your response/help. -Eddie
