v101 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I have an ELK M1 Gold Panel, and networking module, etc. Also the ISY-99 and soon to purchase the ELK mod for the ISY. I have several of the ELK-M1KPNAV (ELK touch screen) Ive read on various posts recently that using the Insteon Thermostats, or Ventstar thermo's don't integrate 100% with the ELK.. I read that one can setup "Virtual" controls via the ELK to access / control the thermo's via the ISY. So the question comes down to, which thermostat would I want to investigate purchasing? I read that the ELK can integrate with a number of different thermo companies out there. Does anyone know of any future plans to integrate with any IP enabled Thermostats? If anyone has successfully integrated their thermo's with the ELK panel and ISY to get the control both from the ELK touch screen, and also their ISY, Id like to hear what hardware you went with.
Michel Kohanim Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Hi v101, If you are using ISY, the question is why would the thermostat need to be supported by ELK? With kind regards, Michel
NHWA Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 v101, I have an Elk system, and I have to admit that although it has automation and control abilities, I use my isy for everything with the exception of a few programs in the Elk that work in conjunction with my ISY (phantom outputs for things). It just didn't make sense to me to go to the elk key pad to control something when I could do it from my phone (via mobilinc) or through the ISY that has better integration with all of my other devices. I also find the Elk's capabilities (just as HAI's) to be a bit dated. I'm still happy that I have an Elk since it integrates well with the ISY but I really wouldn't bother to set up a thermostat with it--especially with z wave around the corner on the ISY.
v101 Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Got you, that makes sense, I was hoping to get the best of both, but as you said if the ISY does it, and can integrate well with the thermo's then just stick with what works. So along those lines, i read a lot of posts about the ventstar thermo's and also the Insteon thermo's, does the ISY by chance now or in the near future support thermo's that WIFI attach to your LAN? What's your thoughts/opinion on if you were buying a thermo to integrate with the ISY /
Michel Kohanim Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Hi v101, Sincere apologies for tardy reply. Our plans to support other WiFi thermostats depends on demand. And, currently, we don't have much. With kind regards, Michel
