Teken Posted November 24, 2013 Share Posted November 24, 2013 As the title states clearly. Why is there not a global PLM made available from Insteon / Smarthome? I know there have been a few short replies through the community and related forums. But, I would like a straight answer as to why this is? I truly believe if Smarthome offered a global PLM the Insteon adoption rate would increase a lot faster than it is. It would also provide cross sales for both companies and allow those who wish to use a proven HA controller such as the ISY-994. Based on the customer ratings and feed back the HUB is taking a beating and is not ready for prime time. I can't see why a company would release a product to the global market and not be ready. This reflects poorly on the name brand and the product in general. Many of you know the ISY-994 has single handily turned a sub par product into a stellar product only because of the hard work and dedication of the UDI team. One has to wonder how offering a global PLM with a proven HA controller in the market could be a bad thing? I can't pinpoint exactly where I got this feeling from, but it seems that I am not the only one seeing it this way. I for one would never have bought anything Insteon without the ISY. Before you would see references in the product details of XXX controllers etc. Now, all of the third party controller vendors have slowly been phased out and the HUB is referenced in all of the controllers listed for use. Over time this has given the impression that only the HUB is the recommended HA controller of choice? I don't believe UDI will have to worry too much about losing their position for Insteon / ZWave support! The HUB has so much potential but its riddled with problems, and features which should be basic in nature. As I mentioned in the SH forums all of the people behind this HUB device really need to get a move on. Since the launch to the EU one would think offering a controller that works would be job one and a priority! It simply takes away from the products name brand and the user experience. This whole cloud based linking and control is also a disaster waiting to happen. Anyone who would rely on a company for the complete control of your homes lighting and automation is simply naive in thinking there won't be issues. Teken . . . I fail to understand how anyone would pay someone else to host their in home HA system. Some of these offerings must be scoped out for the dumb. I have to gather its advertised as easy set up and that is the selling point. But, everyone knows nothing good ever came easy. They don't because in their mind the HUB is their future. Well, if its their future based on how its going now. Its going to be a short lived on at that! A smart business man would include, foster, and grow the third party support. This in my mind has been lost on Smarthome / Insteon. When you have Zwave, Zigbee, etc all being supported by some of the largest after market vendors like Leviton, Cooper, etc. One has to wonder how can you expect to grow the market share being the only one producing your wares?
