ALL ON

Has anyone seen a problem where arbitrarily a action that seems to be like a all on occurs? It appears randomly and sporadically. Is there anyway that something could be happening in the PLM or maybe this is a device doing this. All devices will come on whether they are disabled or not.

I recall reading an occasional question about this, but I don't recall that there was ever a common solution, if any. I don't believe it was a systemic problem with the ISY. I do not recall any posts about any relationship between a device action and ALL ON. Rather, I thought they were more random.

Perhaps there was some relationship to power outages and queries, but that is just a guess.

Hello RLIKWARTZ,

I am one that has experienced this as well.

I attributed mine to an Electrostatic Discharge upsetting a device in such a way that it sent an erroneous message.

LeeG explained in the thread below that a group 255 exists that could cause all devices to respond.

Unknown as to why or how the device might formulate to send such a message , whether or not the checksum would be valid, or if the CRC should have prevented it from being acted on.

Hi,

3 weeks ago, I had to replace my PLM since it was not working (viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13627).

However, with the new PLM is now exprience random "ON" for some of my Insteon devices.

If there will be new firmware for the PLM, is there a way to upgrade my current PLM which is causing some problems now?

Thanks.

Hi ferdies,

If the issue is only random devices, then we are not talking about the same problem. If ALL your devices turn on randomly, then yes, you can change the PLM (once available from SmartHome).

With kind regards,

Michel

I have also instances wherein ALL devices turn randomly. The frustrating part was that my garage I/OLinc was also linked to a switchlinc. Thus, turning ON all devices randomly also opened my garage.

Everything was so smooth with my old PLM until it gave up.

Since I upgraded back in January, I have had ALL ON happen twice. Nothing obviously weird in the ISY log, that I saw.

old: ISY-99i, 3.3.10, 2412 PLM

new: ISY-994i, 4.1.2, 2413s PLM & power supply

What is the PLM's Firmware version? That may assist in finding some answers.

It can be found in the Tools, Diagnostics, PLM Info/Status choice.

Smarthome will not let any end user update firmware in anything.

It has been that way since I started with Insteon in 2005.

Good to see that two things haven't changed much 8)

Just an update on this - I spoke with SH support today and they had no idea about this issue or a pending firmware upgrade. If the devs are aware of the issue/working on firmware, they have not informed support.

I have had my first ALL ON event the other day. Every light on and every fan running. It seemed to be triggered with my one garage door opening. My second garage door opened at the same time which was weird and when I came into the house everything was on and running. Logs on ISY did not show anything strange so I feel it was a PLM event that triggered it.

Hopefully this won't occur too often.

Hi Guys,

Yes, this requires a PLM replacement.

Dwight, please contact our support so that we can hook you up with our contacts at SmartHome.

With kind regards,

Michel

Hi Michel,

You might be able to assist me as well. All ON happened just few minutes ago which also opened my garage. Luckily, I was home and I am hoping, same as Dwight, that it wont occur very often (especially in situation I am not around).

Thanks

I've spoken with support (Steve) a few times, but he really just gave me info on how an all on could happen due to noise. He didn't mention any real fix and said PLM replacement/new PLM firmware is not known. This seems to contradict what Michel has said previously.

I put in a request with support. Included my contact information and the post here.

Thanks for your help!

Got a call from Steve (thanks!) although it seems that it is a very rare set of events in the universe colliding to cause this problem - ha!

I am wondering since a garage opening event triggered it for another user as well as me - perhaps there is something to do with 'noise' from the motors that is causing this unlikely event to happen!?

I suppose the only way to really know would be to put FilterLincs on the two openers I use and see if there are any strange events happen again (although quite expensive)

I did notice a strange thing happen this morning with my opener even with a new SwitchLinc installed last night. The IOLinc and Garage Opener are in the same Duplex Receptacle in the Garage Ceiling (and I have two setups). I have used this setup for quite a while now but only lately experienced problems which I thought was a SwitchLinc Timer I had for the garage ceiling light load.

This is my SCENE to turn on my Garage Ceiling Lights:

New Garage SwitchLinc (Load) - as Controller (replaced SwitchLinc TIMER that I thought was defective.)

Foyer KPL8 Button F (LED) - as Controller

Bedroom KPL6 Button D (LED) - as Responder only

Then I have a program that activates this scene when the Garage IOLinc detects the door(s) opening.

This morning when I opened the Garage Door #1 - the total scene came on and functioned properly (Timed to turn off in 5 minutes)

Then when I opened garage Door #2 - only the SwitchLinc of the scene turned on - the KPL's did not turn on. I do not understand how only part of a scene can turn on (and only sometimes).

So perhaps that is telling me that the Garage Door Opener Motor is indeed a 'noise maker'? Does anyone have an issue like that? These are your basic Chamberlain Openers from Sears.

This is my Garage Ceiling Programs:

Garage 1 Light Switch

If
Control 'Garage / Garage Door #1-Sensor' is switched On
And Status 'Garage / Garage Lightswitch' is not On

Then
Run Program 'Garage Light Timer' (Then Path)

Else
  - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

SAME AS ABOVE FOR DOOR #2

Garage Light Timer - dual purpose use through program or manual activation

If
Control 'Foyer / Foyer KPL8 / Foyer KPL8.F' is switched On
Or Control 'Garage / Garage Lightswitch' is switched On

Then
Set Scene 'Garage / Garage Ceiling' On
       Wait 5 minutes
       Repeat 3 times
Set 'Garage / Garage Lightswitch' 50 (Beep Duration)
          Wait 1 second
       Repeat 1 times
          Wait 15 seconds
Set Scene 'Garage / Garage Ceiling' Off

Else
  - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Using this program as a trigger for the scene - how is it possible that the 'load' came on but the KPL's didn't!?

Thanks for any help!
