ISY-994 Hangs

Over the last few weeks I've found my ISY-994 PRO/IR hung with the power and Rx light stuck on. It appears totally non-responsive.

No hardware changes in that time. I'm running 4.1.2 (the latest beta). Zwave board was added a few months ago and has been working ok (still some errors on the more distant lock - looking forward to 4.1.3 to fix that). Nothing I can pinpoint as to the cause.

Are there any diagnostics I should run on it? Any hints or ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

RX LED on solid indicates the ISY is not able to communicate with the PLM. Unplug the PLM for a few minutes and make sure the cable connections are fully seated. After PLM is plugged in again, reboot the ISY. If the RX LED remains on solid it indicates a bad PLM or bad cable.

Thanks, Lee.

I unplugged the PLM and the ISY for a few minutes, then plugged back in the PLM, then the ISY.

In the past, if I reset just the ISY it would recover and run for a few more days before locking up again. Maybe I'll order another PLM incase it happens again. I checked the cable and the connections and all looks ok.

Thanks for your help.

I've had a similar problem.

I've had several more occurrences of the lock-up since then. It is believed to be some kind of buffer overflow when the ISY is flooded with some kind of UPNP (universal plug-n-play) packets transmitted with some media servers. (I don't think I have any "media servers" but I do have media devices.)

I put my ISY power supply on an external household timer (shutting the power off for 1 minute every night) - that is a temporary solution. My home was left with lights on for several days when one of the failures occurred because I could not get control of the ISY. I would really like to avoid having lights on for days on end - it doesn't enhance security.

It has been pointed out that the external timer covers up the solution of the problem. I have removed the timer and a couple of lock-ups have happened.

I am very interested in solving this problem and would cooperate with any experiments/reports that would be needed by universal-devices support.

LeeG,

No RX light on.

The first occasion (after being locked-up for several days) the Power LED was on - no other LEDs lit.

The second occasion (several weeks later), Power LED was constantly lit, the Error and Memory LEDs were blinking.

I've had a few other lock-ups since then, but did not note the LED states.

I believe the problems are unrelated. The RX LED being On indicates the ISY is not able to communicate with the PLM. Since you do not have the RX LED On and it sounds like some diagnostics have been done regarding local LAN communication issue I don't see a relation between your symptom and not being able to talk to the PLM.
