Scottmichaelj Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Siri To Soon Be Opened Up To Developers With New SDK For iWatch http://www.ijailbreak.com/news/siri-soon-opened-developers-new-sdk-iwatch/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter From the article: The report points out how the Siri of today can’t do things like book a car rental or make a hotel reservation, or use a messaging app other than Messages to send a text. The improvements to Siri would potentially enable those types of things, enabling third-party integrations that don’t require one-to-one business arrangement between Apple and the external company. Current integrations like those with OpenTable and Wolfram Alpha do involve those direct deals, which limits the pace at which new third-party powers can be added to Siri. This could be promising for companies like Mobilinc and being able to get access to Siri. I think this is great news, now to capitalize on it.

Scottmichaelj Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Don't get your hopes up. Why are you always so negative? This looks like its going to happen.
gatchel Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Don't get your hopes up. Why are you always so negative? This looks like its going to happen. Maybe you're the negative one and he's the realist.
Scottmichaelj Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 What based on my post makes me the negative one? I posted the article to share with everyone that hopefully this will become available and allow us to do more. Apple needs to open up Siri to compete with Android and allow apps to become more powerful. If this is being reported its not just some "pie in the sky" wish, its coming.
Scottmichaelj Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 So now that Apple HAS released the Homekit and allowed Siri integration, Wes any thoughts or updates with Mobilinc getting full seamless integration with Mobilinc? Tons of new 3rd party products were shown at CES 2015 with Siri control, including the new Insteon hub and iOS control. http://smarthome.reviewed.com/news/new-insteon-hub-makes-200-products-homekit-compatible
elvisimprsntr Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Wes has already submitted a homekit app to Apple. I am sure once there are actual devices in inventory Apple will start approving homekit apps.
InsteonNut Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Hi huddadudda, We submitted our HomeKit app to Apple back in Sept., but it appears Apple is holding all HomeKit apps from being released until they finalize the HomeKit spec. No matter what you heard at CES, there's no approval date or certification date yet that would act as a shipping date for these 3rd party HW vendors. http://mobilinc.com/apps/mobilinchome/ Wes
Scottmichaelj Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Interesting, thanks for the update. Strange that they had working demos and Smarthomes Insteon Hub is available for preorder. Maybe its ready to go and as soon as they get permission they will get the app available and start shipping. The "demos" could been on SDK dev accounts/devices. Plus "accepting" vs "approving" are two different things. Care to offer any updates or plans on integrating Mobilinc with Homekit? I was under the impression that HomeKit was finalized and now accepting applications. http://www.iphonehacks.com/2014/10/apple-mfi-specs-homekit.html http://9to5mac.com/2014/11/17/mfi-summit-shenzhen-apple-begins-accepting-product-plans-for-homekit-accessories/
Scottmichaelj Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Wes I asked this back in January and you never answered. With WWDC around the corner do you care to offer any updates/plans/news on integrating Mobilinc with Homekit/Siri or new info/additions to Mobilinc in general?
InsteonNut Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Hi huddadudda, We released MobiLinc Home to Apple back in September as our standalone HomeKit app, however, Apple has yet to review or approve any HomeKit apps. Communication from Apple has been nil on HomeKit to developers. I have no idea when we'll actually see HomeKit HW for sale or when HomeKit apps will be approved. Until there's movement from Apple here, I'm hesitant to attempt anything else in the HomeKit space. There has been progress on different fronts on MobiLinc/iOS, but I'm not ready to make any public announcements yet. Wes
Scottmichaelj Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Wes, thank you for your response. I guess really the only thing I am really looking forward to is true Mobilinc Siri integration. The red bar flashing at the top while Mobilinc is in the background waiting for voice commands is horrible and if I knew that was a Apple requirement and would happen I wouldn't have paid the "exorbitant" (/sarcasm) amount for the add-on. It would be nice that if I wasn't close to my phone and needed to activate something I could just speak it. As a side note have you ever thought about making the today widgets an add-on outside the subscription for connect? I would really like the widgets but I don't want to pay for the subscription for them as I don't need the other features.
InsteonNut Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Hi huddadudda, I just responded to your private message, but I'll rephrase here for others: True Siri integration just isn't possible with the way Apple has locked us out of accessing Siri APIs directly the way you want it. The voice control model I added allows you to setup the app to run in the background or all the time to just speak your commands. The limit here is distance from the mic, but that's a hardware limitation, not software. Plus, let's say Apple does open up Siri to devs, you'll have the same issue. We're all limited by the hardware mic quality. MobiLinc and voice control works great today without Siri. I'm looking at offering the Today View widgets as an In-App purchase. It's not as easy as that sounds, but it's something that I'm actively investigating. Wes
Scottmichaelj Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 For anyone following this topic 9to5Mac and TechCrunch is reporting Apple’s HomeKit platform will see first accessories launch next week. If this is correct then I was right on my prediction. Also Google announced their Home Automation plans at their I/o Dev conference last week. Things are heating up. http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/29/apple-homekit-shipping-june/?pushup=1 http://techcrunch.com/2015/05/20/apples-home-app-for-homekit-said-to-include-virtual-rooms-apple-tv-hub/#.xtrhot:ljwI
Scottmichaelj Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Apple is now shipping Homekit, along with Smarthome Hub Pro and Lutron http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/2/8701537/homekit-products-on-sale-today
