MikeB Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 When clicking on a scene in the Admin console, the right pane does not list any members that are KPL secondaries. So, in order to see the status of those members, you must click on each member under "My Lighting". I think it would be more convenient to see ALL members and statuses in that list.
ResIpsa Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Agreed. I thought I must have been missing something. When clicking on a scene in the Admin console, the right pane does not list any members that are KPL secondaries. So, in order to see the status of those members, you must click on each member under "My Lighting". I think it would be more convenient to see ALL members and statuses in that list.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Mike, This starts the scene discussion again as those buttons are scene activators but their state does not mean whether or not the scene has that state. It's just a status of the backlight. I am not sure if it would be a good idea to have all those listed. With kind regards, Michel When clicking on a scene in the Admin console, the right pane does not list any members that are KPL secondaries. MikeB Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 Hey Michel - I'm not looking to necessarily get the status of the scene, but just for an easier way to see if those KPL buttons are lit. For example, I have a scene called "Vacation Status" that contains 2 KPL secondary buttons. If I'm testing something, I might want to check if those 2 KPL buttons are lit. My natural instinct is to go down to the scene itself and look at the members. Right now, clicking the scene itself doesn't list the members, and clicking the members listed under the scene in the tree does not show their status. So, I have to scroll up and find my devices named MasterBedControls1E and GarageControl2E, and click on them to see their status. If you don't want to list the KPL secondaries when clicking on the scene itself, what about showing their status when clicking on the device within the scene tree? Thanks!
Algorithm Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Hi Mike, I understand exactly what you are saying, and I do agree that it would be nice to be able to more easily see the state of a KPL secondary button's LED. But I'm not sure how it should be implemented. Clicking on a scene shows all of the scene's responder devices, along with the current state of each, but does not show controller devices as they have no state to display. A KPL secondary button is a control-only device, just like a ControLinc button or a RemoteLinc button, but with the difference that it has an LED which can be controlled though it is not a load. So should we treat this a no-load-responder device, or a control-only device?
MikeB Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 I see the issue. I think it should be treated as a no-load responder. I think many people use them as responders - such as showing the status of a garage door, a lamp module, a vacation button, etc. Thanks for the reply!
Algorithm Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Hi Mike, Good points. I use many of the same, and would like an easy way to see the LED status. On the other hand, in large scenes with many responders and controllers, where the KPL secondaries' LED status may not be of interest, they would add clutter and lengthen the list. So I'm not sure of the best way to implement this. Suggestions are welcome, everyone.
dougspence Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 How about a radio button allowing the user the choice to select or not select the displaying of secondary KPL button led status?
Algorithm Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 How about a radio button allowing the user the choice to select or not select the displaying of secondary KPL button led status? Hi Doug, An interesting idea. Would this be a global selection, or a per-scene selection?
dougspence Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 A per scene selection seems more flexible for my own use. Perhaps the choices could include 'Off', 'Enable by program' , and 'Enable globally'
