Can't log onto M1

I've been away from this for awhile and today I tried to log into the ELKRP (ver 5.2.4). It used to work and nothing has changed (that I know of). But now when I try to connect, I get a "Failed to connect to server" error. Does anyone know what this means and how can I fix it?

 

Edit: I read an old post on Cocoon Tech forum that while the connection to my ELK M1 seems good (e.g. ISY/ELK work fine and ELKRP Finder locates M1XEP), it could be the IP address has changed. Since our home experiences power outages periodically, that could have happened when modem etc. re-booted. So my fix may simply be to unplug the M1XEP power supply and force a re-boot. Hmmm, could it be that simple?

I would think the best course of action would be to log into your router and look up what the ELKRP's current IP address is and try connecting to that. Restarting the ELKRP would be doing the same thing that may have caused the problem to begin with.

The Elk XEP finder will tell you the IP address.

 

And if ISY is connecting, the IP address must not have changed since ISY doesn't have a way to locate the XEP aside from the address you set manually.

 

And you should give your xep a static address anyway.

As mentioned, the Elk XEP finder confirmed I have the correct address. Plus communications through the ISY seem normal. Perhaps there is some portion of the RP connection (not the ISY) that requires a link or node that has somehow become corrupted. The thread on Cocoon Tech seemed to suggest this. I also seem to recall this connection problem occurred at least once since it's install and unplugging the XEP, then plugging it back in, fixed it.

I would agree but I had communication issues when I first set this up years ago and using a static address seemed to resolve that. Getting the DNS connection seemed a little more involved then just checking the box on the M1XEP Setup screen.

Since it's install, I rarely log into the RP. The important stuff is currently functioning properly and I'm a little concerned if I start tinkering, I'm liable to really mess things up.

In another interesting development, when I tried to open the RP today, its asking for a username and password. I don't recall that issue before and I'm not sure what the password would be.

You mentioned that your router rebooting could have changed your IP address. And that is true, but that is all it can change.

 

There is no "link or node". There is a port number, but the port number is static and is a setting in Elk, not the router. It would never change unless you changed it. The port number also is listed in the finder.

 

Your xep may simply be malfunctioning. A reboot may fix that.
