Envirogreen Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 All of a sudden the dimmer started to beep and on/off ramping became really, really slow. Only fast on/off worked properly. Tried a reset (pulled out tab on bottom of dimmer, waited 10 sec, pushed and held till beeped) - No Change went in and did a device restore - the dimmer now worked the way it should - BUT - still beeps. Any ideas how I stop the beep? Thank you,
apostolakisl Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Is it possible you have a program on your ISY run amok? A program that sends a beep command to the switch caught in a loop could do this.
Brian H Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Depending on the hardware revision of your Switchlinc Dimmer. Some would beep if they detected an improper load on them. Can you easily test it with the load disconnected? Since this just started and you had to do a restore to get it to work again. There is a slight possibility the Switchlinc is starting to fail.
Envirogreen Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Brian H - buy test the load you mean test the electric load - if that is the question I don't think there is any issue as there are 2 other insteon switches right beside the one that is beeping and they have no issues apostolakisl - I've disabled all programs and it still beeps.
Brian H Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Yes some of them if connected to things like a inductive device or maybe a CFL would beep. To indicate the load was possibly not a dimmable type. Since you didn't change anything. It should not be an issue. I just mentioned it for a fact.
Envirogreen Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 is this starting to sound like a device that is failing? If that is the case, what are peoples experience with devices failing. Recently I had a number of lamplinc modules fail (less than a year old), but this would only be the second dimmer to fail in three-four years. That said, I was wondering if that sounds like a normal failure rate with Insteon? Thanks,
Brian H Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Track record for my Insteon modules is all over the place. I have Revision 1.3 ApplianceLincs from 2005 still chugging along. While a fairly new one failed in seven months and was a warranty replacement. I had a 2413S PLM fail in two years and three months. Just over the warranty. Had a few of the older SwitchLincs exhibit the tact switch failure. That Smartlabs extended the warranty to seven years on.
