Enable Internet Access

Just bought a new ISY-99i/IR Pro from Smarthome. I'm trying to enable internet access but keep getting the message that "No Internet Gateway found". I have tried DHCP and I have tried using fixed IP address. My firewall is a Linux box running IPCOP. I have entered the IP address of the IPCOP machine like I have on all my computers that work on my network.

I've tried enabling it by telneting into it and by using administrative console. Neither one works.

Any ideas what might be the problem?

I've only had it about two days, so I'm still trying to figure it out.

Thanks,

Hello James,

If your router is not UPnP enabled, then File->Enable Internet Access will not work which I think is the case now.

This said, however, you can still enable internet access manually by forwarding port 443 (unless you want to change it) to your ISY's IP address. you can find port forwarding instructions for almost any type of router at http://portforward.com .

With kind regards,

Michel

I can confirm, unless something has changed in the past 6 months IPCOP doesn't support UPnP. You'll have to create a forward manually.

I had already figured out that most likely IPCOP didn't support UPnP. Is there more to it than just creating the normal port forwarding rules to get the ISY to find the network gateway? Would seem to me that it would be easy for it to find the internet gateway, now I could understand it having problems with the internet accessing the ISY. I must be doing something wrong. I've created port forwarding rules and external rules to the ISY.

Also do I need to assign a specific port number to the ISY or can I just leave it set at the default ports, 80 and 443?

If you know anything about IPCOP, maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,

Actually, it's simpler than that. All that the ISY's "enable internet access" does is automatically create port forwards for you in your router, assuming your router supports UPnP.

Since IPCOP doesn't support UPnP, you simply have to create a rule on IPCOP to forward port 443 (HTTPS) to your ISY's IP address (which you should make static). If you want/need HTTP access to the ISY as well, you would also forward port 80 - but be aware that HTTP is not encrypted.

Once you create the rules in IPCOP, there's nothing further you have to do on the ISY. You don't need to use the "enable internet access" function.

You should be able to leave it at those ports, unless you're already forwarding them to somewhere else on your LAN.

I was running IPCOP for the longest time here, but don't currently have it running anywhere - so I can't help you with the details, sorry.

If you haven't already, check out this forum:

The guys there should be able to walk you through creating the needed rules if you're having issues.
