pjjameso Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Any views on going via POTS or Internet monitoring with alarm relay? Just finishing up my retrofit with the M1 panel and will be switching monitoring companies. Currently have a second line for fax/alarm reporting (FiOS voice, internet, etc). May drop the second line if I go with internet. What would be nice is a cell service backup eg the Leviton C3 but understand that is on its last legs. Currently a Verizon subscriber and they have switched to SIM cards. My understanding is Verizon's SIM card will not work with the C3, correct? Is there a newer cell backup solution available these days?
apostolakisl Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I am using the C3 with my Elk. I was using ATT but just switched to Tmobile. So, those two work. Switched to tmobile because once you pay $100, then all future minutes purchased have a 1 year expiration. So, I expect it to cost me about $10/year from now on. ATT makes you spend $100/year. Tmobile has dropped half of their band width from 2G where I live, however this does not seem to be a problem as I still get full function with only the one frequency. Tmobile does not seem to be saying anything about totally eliminating 2G.
