Where are all the tablet/phone applications?

I've been searching for hours trying to find a decent mobile application for a tablet (not concerned about the OS, anyone will work for me) but I have yet to come across a decent one.

I looked through the forum and found some 3rd party applications, but it looks like nearly all of them are outdated, unsupported, buggy, discontinued, etc.

The only application that seems to be somewhat "actively" worked on is MobilLinc. For myself, it is out of the question because the user interface is not to my liking.

I'm looking for something sleek, like what you'd see on a lot of the newer Crestron interfaces or Control4. Are there any applications that allow you to customize your own GUI? My goal is to have an in-wall interface to control my home theater, hvac, lighting, locks, and blinds.

Thanks!

I have been using eKeypad Pro, which has a customizable 'Favorites' screen, but I'm guessing you'd want more options to change the GUI than it offers.

Have you looked at iRule?  I just now started using it for IR stuff, but there is an ISY module you can add (for more money, of course).  The customization appears to be pretty nice with options for custom buttons (including separate "pressed" icon), and you can place them on the screen(s) wherever you like.  You can even do "drawers" that pull out from the sides for additional features without going to another page.

iRule was actually my first option because it looked like there is a of flexibility with the UI. My only hesitation was the ISY module that they sell separately. There isn't much documentation on it and I couldn't find if the UI of the ISY module could be changed from the default sliders and buttons they give you. They pro also only allows 25 devices and then $7 per device more. I have 100 insteon devices in my house, so if each insteon device counts, then this app will cost me a fortune and I might as well post a project on Elance for a custom Android app.

That's an interesting take on the device limit.  Are you sure that it applies to each individual Insteon device?

I was under the assumption that the 25 device limit was only for IR/IP/RS32 devices in the base remote application and that the ISY module would cover anything attached to it.  If the device limit includes each item controlled by the ISY, that that would be a stupid restriction... and a reason that I (like you) certainly would not purchase it.

Does anyone know whether the $25 ISY module covers all devices that are part of the ISY?

I hope the ISY only counts as a single device. I've reached out to them and asked the question. I will let you know once I hear back from iRule.

Roomie remote integrates well with the isy. You can make custom remotes, but to set up all of your devices will take some time. You can activate scenes and programs. When we are finished watching a movie I can hit all off to turn off the av equipment and run a program to turn off the lights on a delay so we can leave the room.

Thanks EricK! The Roomie looks like a great possibility.

I just heard back from iRule and they said the ISY and everything it controls counts as a single device.

Does anybody know of any apps that also control IP cameras and ISY devices?

iRule can control almost anything you can send a command to.  For cameras, you can add a URL widget with the link to your cameras stream, and then add buttons that have the commands for controlling it.  I haven't gone as far as adding the buttons, but I have integrated the streams into my handsets just to get a quick view.  The only caveat is MJPEG is not supported.  If you have H.264 cameras you should be fine.

Also, you can of course control ISY in iRule through the REST interface.  This gets you around having to buy the module.  I've found some of the customization of the module to be limiting.  The only issue with using buttons for ISY in iRule is that device feedback becomes much more complicated.  I think they are working on allowing feedback to alter what image is presented on the button.

Would you be able to tell me how to get a H264 stream in iRule. I can't seem to get it to work.

If you have the URL to the stream on your network, just creat a URL widget with that link in it.  Then you can size it to a size that makes sense for the video resolution.  That should be all there is to it.  You may have to look at the camera's web interface source code to find the URL, or google it.  It's camera/brand dependent.

Great set up.  I am a big fan of roomie which works very well with the ISY.  My favorite is my all off for the movie room which calls a program to turn off the lights on a delay to give us time to leave the room.

What buttons are you using for the Roomie page in the first pic of the second row in your post.  For example, for the front lights you have a button with feedback and then a slider.  For the basement Lamp you have a button with feedback and then what for the button that has the text "Basement Lamp."  Is it a slider with no feedback.  For the basement lamp which button can control the lamp.  I think only the button with feedback.

Thank you,

Eric

Take a look at Demopad, I think it is far more powerful and flexible than any of the other options.

I have owned iRule and Roomie from day one but now use Demopad only.

It works great with ISY both for Insteon control, status etc and maintaining sync across ios devices using variables.

trevorst,

I just reviewed the DemoPad website but do not see any mention of ISY.  How does it control/communicate with the ISY controller?

It communicates through the REST interface, if you do a search on both this forum and the Demopad forum you will find very detailed info.

Or here is the link to the ISY Post.
