Insteon On/Off module to be On after power cycle?

I guess it could be discussed before but I cannot find an answer. I have Insteon On/Off module controlled by ISY994. After power outrage it stays Off. What setting should I change to make sure the module goes On automatically after power cycle? Thanks.

As I understand it none of the new modules will resume its previous state when AC power is lost.

 

This is why I prize many of the older appliance link on/off units that did so.

 

There was a period where some of the same production date units had the same behaviour as yours that shipped to end users.

 

Your only solution is to set up a program on the ISY to turn the unit back on, at start up.

You may be able to use a SynchroLinc to power something safe and harness that signal to turn on the module.

One of the Insteon specifications was remember its state at power restoration after a power loss. On, Off or Dim level.

 

Sounds like that may have changed again. If your On/Off module was On and defaulted to Off after a power cycle.

 

No Insteon module defaulted to On if it was Off. Except the short production run. SocketLinc Dimmer. It always came On even if it was Off.

 

I have a majority of my ApplianceLincs and Icon ON/OFF modules that follow the specification and a few from the production runs that always stay OFF.

I thought the resume feature was somewhat optional? Some SKUs have it, others do not....

ISY Programs have "Run at Startup Feature".as Teken pointed out.

1. Write a program with no condition that simply turns the device on
2. Go to to program summary tab and right click on the program name to set each of these
   • Disable  (so the logic won't run, but it can still be run directly by Run at Startup)
   • Turn on "run at startup" (to do what you want)

Here is my program (Its called New Program)

If
   - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition')
 
Then
        Set 'Family Room / Doorwall Lamp' On
 
Else
   - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

 

The Attached picture shows how the Program should look in the Summary tab

I know pretty much that X10 is going away but that is something Insteon should just keep. It doesn't cost them a lot if any to just included it in the firmware. It gives them that selling point to those who still have some legacy X10 devices that its still backwards compatible and supported.

 

I am probably the only guy I know who is doing the whole HA that never even tried X10 in my area!    I don't know if its the ugly looks, or the 1970 dial wheels that just put me off about the whole X10.

 

Back on point: OP just use a program to return the device to a ON condition. It may not make much of a difference to Smarthome but I will add this feature request in their new forum located here:http://forum.insteon.com/forum/main-category/new-insteon-device-wish-list/18003-resume-power-state-on-off-dim-for-plug-in-devices

I read in this or the smarthome forum that the appliance lincs default to an off state on power up.  This way if you had some equipment plugged in and the power came back on the equipment would not turn on. Safety issue.  I wonder if the on/off switches are following this safety issue since you could control a switched outlet with one.

Ill have to check my landscape lights programs and run them at startup.

I get the safety aspect but people have to realize the following. People have to take ownership of their own lives, companies also have to accept people have things On / Off for a reason.

 

If someone was too stupid to connect a On / Off module to say (making this up) to a fire place? And it came back on, and burned the house down, its their fault.

 

Now, if the same person had it connected to a light, TV, stereo, etc and it was on, well blasted leave it back on if the power cycles during that time.

 

Don't second guess the user, its their problem if the device burns their house down because they left it attached to something that should not be controlled by an automated switch!

Unfortunately. We have to protect the stupid moves sometimes that happen.

 

Not sure about Canada but here in the USA we have Lawyers that try and get money for a clients stupid moves.

 

My lawn mower actually has a warning in the manual to not lift it up while running. I understand some user picked theirs up and tried to trim their hedges and won money because the manual didn't warn them it may remove some of your fingers.

 

When I was working for Motorola Communications. A police officer told me about a burglar tripping on a hose out side a home they where breaking into and winning a award in court. Because the hose was not properly put away. Even though they where committing a criminal act.

 

My guess is. Better to have an unhappy user where their module stayed Off over something going On and causing damage or harm to someone.

Understood, and have to agree protecting the stupid seems like a full time job these days for lawmakers and lawyers. Now, that is why I suggested in the Insteon Wish List thread that you could have your cake and eat it too!

 

Have the feature available but allow the stupid to disable it when not required! Let me be even more clear, by default this feature is disabled and must be turned on by the end user.

Thanks, I will set a program. It should not be much of a problem in this case since the device is supposed to be powered all the time (one of the PoE routers) except when I want to power cycle it remotely to reset the cameras. However, I can imagine situations when remembering last state On or Off would be preferable... I guess it can also be done using state variable that remembers its value after ISY reboot...
