Best Thermostat w/ humidity

All,

I am looking for the best thermostat to use with my ISY, I have more Insteon then Zwave devices however I have no preference.  What I would like is for the thermostat to have humidty as well as I need to control my humidifier.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

The Insteon 2441ZTH is about the cheapest you can get. I have two. For humidity control it would work just fine. Humidity updates on a 1 minute report regularly.

Temperatures and other items report only when changes happen. This bugs some users staring at blank data until the next update after install and power failure.

I wouldn't use it for serious home heating control with it's quirks and only 0.5 degree C resolution but for humidity, definitely.

Larry, I am using this for a garage heater so accuracy is not that much of an issue, I was always under the assumption that you could not use the 2441ZTH as a stand alone unit, I thought it has to be paired with a 2441TH.  So to clarify this can be used on its own as a thermostat ?.

I have two 2441ZTH units that input as probes to my ISY994i. No 2441TH required. The 2441TH units have hardware contacts on them to control furnaces and A/C. The Z units only have Insteon I/O, which is what ISY likes to eat.

If you don't mind the ISY in the middle of your control stream then it will work. There may be a way to connect the 2441ZTH directly to an Appliance module but I haven't tried that. I don't typically use direct Insteon connections in my system.

In my one 2441ZTH I can set the "virtual" setpoint contacts in the 2441ZTH. In my other unit I cannot seems to. You can use the Insteon setpoint signal from the 2441ZTH to control programmes or you can set a setpoint in the ISY program and use the analogue Insteon output of the 2441ZTH to make more complex decisions.

The 2441ZTH can be paired with a wired thermostat or it can be an independent INSTEON  device. We use a wireless thermostat to control only the bedroom fire place. We also have some linked to zoned wired thermostats.

If used as an independant device, where do you hook up the wires from the heater ? or do you need an IoLinc ?

How is the heater currently controlled? If it's a plug-in device, then an On/Off module would work. Or you can use an In-LineLinc On/Off switch for a wired line voltage heater. An I/O Linc can replace a low voltage thermostat. What about the humidifier?

The garage heater just has the two wires from the heater, no humidity req'd

The home furnace (I will have to check) for the moment I just want to see what thermostats are available, I will use the garage heater as a test case.

So what I understand is you need to use the 2441ZTH combined with another device (there is no direct connection to the 2441ZTH)

Correct. You need a module with a relay output contact that your heater can plug or wire into and possibly a controller in the middle like the ISY, especially if you want to do any energy saving schemes.

Two line voltage or two low voltage wires? What about the humidifier mentioned in the first post?
