CarlK Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Hi, I could not find any information regarding hardware differences (if any). Is there any difference in functionality or upgrade ability of any 994i (or Pro) either used or a supplier with older stock, etc.? I am planning on using Z-wave and would need to upgrade with the Z-Wave module. Where or when are those available? I have seen posts about Beta use but could not find any information about the Z-wave module. Is this the same Z-wave chipset used on the Aeon Z Stick? (Not sure if there is only 1 chipset available). I am curious as other HA products have determined that chipset has unresolved traffic issues causing the stick to lock up. Aeon requires long delays between commands to avoid issues! Reading your forums I don't see any comments of that nature (gladly!) I just stumbled upon your product and am very excited (finally) about reliable HA. Every post I have read is either happily resolved or has a definite resolution (pending software update). It is great to see a responsive company standing behind a reliable product! Thanks in advance, Carl

Thanks in advance, Carl If the unit is indeed a 994 Series Controller any of them can be upgraded to Zigbee / Z-Wave. UDI is using the latest chip set which allows its firmware to be updated so no worries there. Z-Wave is still in Beta trials at the moment even though its being sold in on line stores. I believe many Z-Wave devices are now supported and many more will be forth coming as the new year comes around. Edited November 3, 2014 by Teken
CarlK Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 Teken, Thanks for the reply. So if I want to use my Z-wave devices I can't, or is there a way to participate in the beta? If not is there a timetable when the plugin will be available? I only have a few devices but the feedback on your Z-wave plugin device seems more stable than Homeseer which has had Z-wave for years! Carl
Xathros Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Carl- You can purchase the ZWave hardware from UDI and the ZWave firmware module via the menus in the ISY-994. This is a public beta - all are welcome. In all likelihood, unless you have multi channel zwave devices, your existing devices will be usable now with the ISY-994 with ZWave module. With multichannel devices, you can likely add the first or primary node now but the remaining channels will be inaccessible until UDI adds multi channel support next year. The ZWave hardware is a daughter board that gets installed inside the ISY-994. I believe the cost for that is $99. It can be purchased from the UDI website along with an external antenna if so desired. The Firmware module is $1. Hope this helps. -Xathros
