jim_ Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I was just reading another thread on "When to use a Scene instead of a Program" which reminded of a question The first time I powered up my new ISY and added new devices for the first time, I noticed after each device was added, there was a new scene created. I did not understand at the time what scenes were, so I deleted everything, did a factory reset and started over again. But when I started adding devices again, each devise appeared only in the ISY folder, but no scenes where being created. While I can create scenes for each device manually, just curious how to set the ISY back to a state where new scenes would be automatically created when adding new devices ? jim
stusviews Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 If you already had linked devices and you did not select "Remove existing links," then the old links created numbered scenes. When you deleted the the devices they were removed form those scenes.
paulbates Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 When you first set up your ISY, it looks like you were installing over an existing Insteon network with some links programmed into the switches and devices. When installing over an exiting system, the ISY tries very hard to look for all of the devices in your existing insteon device links and creates many scenes. I had a similar experience and ended up deleting most of those scenes and recreating what I needed. As Stu points out, when you chose to start over and deleted all of the devices, the scenes and links went with them. This "installing over" experience was difficult for me too, and I had a conversation with Steve Lee of UD about what happened and I decided to rebuild my insteon network from scratch, devices and scenes. Another way to look at this is, each device doesn't need its own scene. If you want to control an individual device directly, simply control it directly. Groups of devices, like a group of outletlincs for yard lights, need a scene to control them all together, and manually creating them based on how you want your house to behave is the way to go.
