Failures trying to add Yale Real Living Touchscreen Deadbolt

I have just purchased a Yale Real Living Touchscreen Deadbolt w/Z-Wave and I am attempting to add it to my ISY 994i. The device seems to be added although a communications error occurs during the add to the network. The device appears but is showing a status of unknown. It shows a bang unless I do a query (which fails but then changes the icon). Screenshot in yale-issue-1.png. post-6059-0-54875500-1420154728_thumb.png

Version Info: Z-Wave Version: 4.55, Bootloader Version: 1.03, Library: Static Controller, ISY: 4.2.21, ZWave Module: 21100. Product: ISY 994i/IR PRO (1110). Distance between ISY unit and Z-Wave lock ~ 6 feet through open air.

I cleared my event log, removed the device from the network and then did the following which I captured into the isy-log-fail.txt event log isy-log-fail.txt:

  1. Added it to my network.
  2. Did a Z-Wave network heal.
  3. Did a Z-Wave synchronize on the device
  4. Did a Z-Wave repair links.

I have tried a number of things and I always end up back here. I've tried factory resetting the ZWave module (and then re-adding the device), I've upgraded to the latest ISY software, ensured I had cleared my Java cache etc.

Doing a lock or unlock appears to have no impact, clicking options goes away and shows a lot of busy but never comes back.

I am also getting other errors related to this device:

  • Cannot communicate with <Device Name>
  • Request Failed dialog box with just an ok button.
  • (Happens during queries) Unsupported unsolicited z-wave message. (See fail7.png attached) post-6059-0-27048600-1420155232_thumb.png

Hi rodtoll3,

You are correct, it looks like the lock was successfully added but for some reason there are communication problems when the ISY attempts to query it.  The "Unknown" status is another indicator that the ISY could not query the lock.

1) How many other Z-Wave devices do you have in your network, and do they have any communication problems?

2) If you manually lock/unlock the lock, do you see its status updated in the ISY?

3) I noticed you factory reset the ISY Z-Wave module.  Have you also tried excluding the lock, factory resetting the lock itself, and then adding it back again?

For those that might stumble across this thread with the same problem - I needed to bring the isy to right beside the lock (taped it to the door) and the link worked. I then acquired a few zwave extenders from Amazon and everything works now.
