Adding Motion Sensor Help

I am following the instructions found else where. "Put the Motion Sensor into linking mode using the Motion Sensor Set button.  Use New INSTEON Device, enter Insteon address of Motion Sensor, Name of choice, and Auto Discover.  Be sure Motion Sensor is near a Dual Band device."

ISY 994i adds the device, but the linking light light does not go out. I have to remove the battery.

I did this process on (2) MS's with the same results.  When I do an event viewer (device) they do not show up.

I also tried using link a sensor, motion sensor, but that yielded the same results.

One of the sensors did work briefly, but when I tried to link it to a scene there was a symbol (looked like a binary number icon) next to the MS. I tried to use the menu Write Updates to Device, but that said this it could not communicate with the device.

Very frustrating. I bought this is a package of (4). I am using on for about a month without any issues.

The battery devices will remain active for approx 4 minutes when manually put into linking mode.   Once New INSTEON Device completes the device can be taken out of linking mode.  Tap the Set button once to put it into unlinking mode, LED should move to blinking twice in a row.  Tap the Set button again to come out of unlinking mode.   This is all covered in the device Owners Manual.

The device has to be put into linking mode again to add it to a Scene.

The manual is not very clear to me. I think my main problem was waiting the 4 minutes. Just removing the battery did not reduce the time.

I tried the tap for blink twice and tap to come out of unlinking mode. But I don't know what the goal of this is. This process just unlinked what I just linked. It would be OK if you are not planning to use the device.

In any event, your notes got me going and everything is working now.

Thanks for the help.

Tapping the Set button to go through unlinking and back to non linking mode avoids pulling the battery.  It does NOT unlink the device.

I found I had to tap the linking button one more time, sending an Off command from the MS, before it would actually respond to motion and send the "On". Then it worked fine. I have 7 of theses units now and they all seem to do this.

IIRC this is stated somewhere in a PDF file but I cannot find it.

As you stated,  I would think they would time-out and return to "running" mode if left alone in this state, also. I haven't tried that but I am usually in a hurry to test them before hanging them back on the wall.

Edit: This phenomenon may just be that the device's page already shows it On and with the Off send disabled no "On" signal can be detected on the ISY MS device page, where I am viewing testing results. :) Further testing will be in order, next time.
