Device Icons

Featured Replies

When one changes the icon in the device settings, where should on expect these changes to show up?

Thanks!

Hi Nestor,

I'm assuming you are using MobiLinc HD on the iPad? If so, the icons you select here will impact the following areas:

- Today View widgets

- Devices/scenes/programs tagged for status/control on your IP Camera video feeds

- When running MobiLinc HD on the iPhone, the icons selected will appear on the iPhone.

Hi Wes, yes I'm running HD on an iPad. (Along with an iPhone)

Icons can be changed on my iPhone, but it doesn't seem to be the case for the iPad.

Eta: Today View is the only place where icon changes are reflected on the iPad.

In my case, it seems only Today widgets show up as changed in the iPad, whereas on my iPhone, changing the icon has a global effect in the app.

So is my iPad not working correctly, or is this a shortcoming of the HD iPad app?

Hi Nestor,

Everything is working as designed. From my initial response, when changing icons on MobiLinc HD on the iPad here's what you can expect to see impacted by the new icons:

- Today View widgets

- Devices/scenes/programs tagged for status/control on your IP Camera video feeds

- When running MobiLinc HD on the iPhone, the icons selected will appear on the iPhone.

As previously mentioned, that's not what's happening on my iPad. In my case, changing the icon is changing the today widgets only. Everything else stays the same. I've deleted and reloaded the app hoping this would resolve it, but to no avail. My iPad is running the latest IOS.

Please advise.

Hi Nestor,

My apologies, but I'm not following you. What exactly in my list is MobiLinc not doing for you?

Are you saying that your tagged devices/scenes/programs visible on your IP Camera video feed view under My Cameras aren't reflecting the new icons?

Guess I've been misunderstanding you because I don't have cameras.

On my iPhone, I've been able to change an icon and that association shows up (basically) everywhere on the app. For instance, I was able to change a program I use to trigger my garage door to a "garage door button" icon, and it shows up as that icon on my dashboard, programs, and today view widgets.

On my iPad, if I do the same thing, it only shows up as the changed icon on Today View. In Programs, since it doesn't change, it's lost in a sea of other program icons.

Is there a way for one to change those icons in the iPad, as I can in the iPhone?

Hi Nestor,

No, not currently. We've been taking feedback on this and considering how best to approach it.

  • 1 year later...

I just downloaded this app on my iPad today, and I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to change the icons. A Google search led me to this thread. Am I to understand that this bug has still not been addressed over a year later?

Tap on the gear (top, left), select Advanced Options, scroll down to Selected ICON

Tap on the gear (top, left), select Advanced Options, scroll down to Selected ICON

I can access those menus and choose a new icon, but the new icon doesn't actually show up when I go back into "My Scenes", "My Devices", etc ... This appears to be the same bug that the OP encountered.

I hadn't tried it on the iPad until now and you're correct, the iPad app doesn't change the icon--the iPhone app does.

And it's by design and unlikely to change because they've gotten good feedback about it. I find it confusing and generally wrong, but I don't expect it to change.

It is indeed quite perplexing. Why would the iPhone version offer this functionality, but not the more expensive iPad version? Additionally, I would think the icons would be even more useful on the iPad's larger screen.

Additionally, the iPad app allows me to choose scenes (or devices) in a particular folder which in my case are rooms, but the smaller iPhone screen shows all selected scenes no matter the folder. The iPhone app does make a selection faster if and only if you have only a few total number of choices.

Hi gweempose,

Icon selection isn't a bug. This is how the iPad MobiLinc HD app was envisioned, designed, and released using the larger real-world icons. Icons selected in the details of the devices, scenes, and programs appear in two areas of the app:

1. Devices, scenes, and programs, you tag to an IP Camera, these appear as your icons for tapping on/off while viewing your IP Camera(s).

2. If you perform a "copy" action to an iPhone these custom icons will be used by MobiLinc on the iPhone.

We understand that some users are looking for a more icon based iPad app and we're taking feedback to see how best to proceed.

stusviews,

Both the iPad and iPhone use the ISY's folder structure to show on the screen for navigation under "Devices", "Scenes", and "Programs" areas of the MobiLinc app.

Thanks for the explanation! I don't have any cameras, so I guess this is why I couldn't figure out why the option to change the icons was even there. :)

I don't have an iPhone, but I've been using the Android version for years, and it definitely allows you to browse by folders. Here's a screenshot from my phone ...
