tas99 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I'm trying to link 2 of my Insteon 2440 Remotelincs to my ISY994i but every time I do I get a message that it can't determine the engine or can't communicate (see attached). I've successfully linked 2 2342s so I understand the process. I'm in the process of moving from Homeseer to ISY and in Homeseer all the Remotelincs work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Make sure RemoteLinc near Dual Band device such as 2413S PLM. Attempt to add RemoteLinc. Post the Event Trace. What ISY Firmware and UI is being used? RemoteLinc is communicating with one of the dual-band devices since I can turn lights on and off and I see it recognized in Homeseer. Light is blinking so it says it's in linking mode. LeeG Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Device 11.B0.A7 did not respond to three commands sent from the ISY PLM. Time 12:38:43 marks the first of three commands sent from PLM. Suggest moving the RemoteLinc near the PLM assuming it is an 2413 Dual Band PLM.

mwester Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I've had significant troubles with my remote linc 2440 -- almost all of which have been resolved by replacing the batteries, and in the one case (the last time I had troubles) I had to clean the contacts for the batteries with a smidgen of sandpaper. I hypothesize that the 2440 is a current hog when transmitting. This would explain all symptoms: generally short battery life, inability to link when previously button presses worked fine (due to the longer "conversations" required when linking being affected by the characteristics of a low battery), and the malfunction when the contacts were slightly corroded (similar to the higher internal impedance of a low battery). Give it a try -- fresh, high-quality batteries, and brush the contacts and tips of the springs in the battery compartment with a little fine sandpaper or emery cloth, followed by a swabbing of same with a little 90% (or better) rubbing alcohol wipe-down. (And if my hypothesis is correct, then the most suitable batteries for the 2440 would be those advertised as ideal for motorized tools and toys -- which is the "consumer way" of the manufacturer saying that the cell has a very low internal impedance.)

Move it closer to the PLM, move it far away from the PLM, move it near a switch, hold it up in the air, change angles while holding it.... You get the idea. Nothing worked, I'd always get the '010101’ icon and some type of error message. Mostly out of desparation, I tried cleaning the contacts with fine sandpaper, then isopropyl alcohol and then installed 4 brand new alkaline AAA's - even though the batteries in the 2440 were fairly new and functioned fine... BINGO! Linked up right away with no issues - and works perfectly. I'm sure glad I came upon your post and thank you for the information! Edited December 7, 2015 by Hydroid
