Popularity of Zwave module, should my app support?

I'm trying to decide if the Zwave module is popular enough to add support for it in my app. I have a pro isy994i and bought it before the Zwave module was available. I wrote an app that I use everyday to adjust Insteon devices around my house. And, I really like the combination of the UD controller and the Insteon devices.

This app has evolved to the point that I recently released it to the iOS App Store and am trying to decide the next set of features to add and the Zwave module was near the top of the list.

Thanks,

Joe

I don't really need any other apps at the moment personally, but Z-Wave support would be a deal breaker for me if I was getting something new.   The ISY is the best Z-Wave controller hands down.  In playing around, I've switched devices between Vera and the ISY so many times and the Vera literally takes forever to get things working.  Exclude 50 times, add it, doesn't work, add again, doesn't configure properly, exclude, include, finally works, repeat for the other devices.  The ISY you exclude, boom done.  Include, boom done.  That simple, even door locks and my ISY is like 20 feet away from the door in another room.  Vera has to be practically touching the lock.

I don't get how adding support for something, even something you don't need or want, would be a deal breaker. Also, how are you able to compare ISY Z-wave support with something Joe hasn't even implemented yet?

Disclaimer: I'm only commenting on the statements, not the merits of the ISY or app.

Well I'm assuming you didn't look up what his app does then since that seems like a weird question.  His app is like MobiLinc or others, an iPad app to control the ISY from what I saw when I looked into it.  If half my network is Z-Wave (locks, thermostat, some light switches and motion sensors), then why wouldn't that be a deal breaker for me?  If I can use MobiLinc and have it show and control all my devices, then why would I pay $9.99 for another app if half the devices I own don't work in it?  Not sure where you get that I don't need or want that, maybe you don't use Z-Wave but many of us do.

So, when you said, "Z-Wave support would be a deal breaker for me," did you really mean lack of Z-Wave support?

Thats how I read it.

Um no actually I wrote it the way I mean it, Z-Wave support IS a deal breaker for me.  You honestly can't understand what that means, and need me to spell it out?  The statement is still correct with or without the word "lack" in there.  If a product doesn't include it, then I don't want it, which is therefore a deal breaker.  Why would I go on and on about how amazing the ISY's Z-Wave support is only to mean I wouldn't buy his app if it supported Z-Wave?  That would make no sense.  The OP didn't seem confused by my statement, and that's who it was for, so all is well.

Hi.  I just wanted to report that one user of my app reported, "Your app works great and by the way it will turn on and off the zwave light & appliance modules as it is now".  However, he did also say it crashed when selecting the ZWave thermostat.  He was going to let me know what other devices it worked with.

Good to hear.  I for one would encourage you to push ahead with ZWave support.  There are a great many ZWave devices now and even more coming to market.  Once the new ISY firmware ships with multi channel ZWave support, there will be lots of people looking for support for their pool/spa controllers, multi outlet power strips, LED lightstrip controllers etc.  Your app looks to be a real winner now and if it gains full ZWave support along with the ISY, they will become an unbeatable combo in my opinion.

Hi

"Your app works great and by the way it will turn on and off the zwave light & appliance modules as it is now". I sent Joe this yesterday, but I realized this morning that my Light and radio I was controlling was actually was actually Key 1 on 2 different 8 button insteon keypad that had nothing connected to the load. So when I turned on the light with Iggyhead remote button I was turning on the insteon button which ran and a program in ISY to turn on and off the the zwave outlet. My radio was set up the same way. So I just check changing the Iggyhead remote button to directly try and controlling the zwave outlet and it does not work. In fact if you pick a zwave module it won't let you save it. So sorry for the mix and confusion. So to sum it up it does not work with zwave right now. It only appeared to work for me because I was triggering a insteon device which in turn ran a program that turned on and off the zwave device. Again sorry if I inconvenienced any one
