jruben4 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I had a 2477D insteon switch working fine with my ISY system; then one day it was being added to a scene in my ISY, and the ISY reported it couldn't communicate with it (but I could still turn the switch on/off via ISY interface, and it was still responding to scenes). I tried a factory reset of the switch (with air-gap, etc) and deleted the switch from my ISY and tried to re-link afresh. When I hit the linc button on the switch, the ISY sees it as a new insteon device and sees the address, but then when I try to complete the link, and it tries to initialize the system, I get an error that it can't be added, because it cannot determine the device link table address. I upgraded to pro just in case this was the issue but it didn't fix it. Any ideas? Thanks!

stusviews Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Try selecting the device from the drop down list using the Insteon ID instead of the discovery method (click on the light bulb icon). Double check the wiring for good, tight connections.
jruben4 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Same problem trying it with the ID. Doubt wiring issues as it worked for weeks and suddenly had an issue when programming one day - didn't reopen the gang box. Any idea what reason 9 is?
stusviews Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 None, but Lee probably does. OTOH, a poor connection can take weeks, months or even longer to manifest. Except for the labor, it's a no-cost check.
LeeG Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 The command that asks for the link database location was issued three times and failed to get a response to any of the three attempts. There should have been an 02 5x response. Is this device some distance from the PLM? How old are the devices around this device? There should have been an Extended message response. jruben4 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 I've installed all the switches in the last 2 months, so they are all new versions. There are probably 6 dual-band switches within 20' of this switch, so I would think even if powerline communication issues the RF should hit it. Also, how is it I can flawlessly control this switch from other switches, as well as from the ISY interface, but there are communication issues only when doing this programming?
LeeG Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Extended messages are not used between devices and not used by ISY to turn On/Off the SwitchLinc. They are used during add of device to the ISY and when Scenes are created or modified. Something in the Insteon network is not handling Extended (long) messages.
jruben4 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 So the problem is one of the other switches closer to the ISY is not passing/relaying extended messages?
LeeG Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Or that SwitchLinc is not handling them. That is why I suggested using an extension cord to plug the SwitchLinc into the PLM power point. All the home improvement stores carry them, plug on one end, bare stripped wires on the other. I test all my devices that way before installing in permanent location.
Techman Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 jruben4 This is a long shot but try unplugging both the PLM and the ISY, wait about 10 seconds then plug in the PLM, wait another 10 seconds then plug in the ISY. Have you recently added any electronics that might be interfering with the Insteon signals?
Xathros Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Another option would be to plug the PLM into an extension cord and then the cord into an outlet that is on the same circuit as the Switchlinc. Try to add the Switchlinc then put the PLM back after a successful link has been established. -Xathros
jruben4 Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Ok, I moved the ISY next to the switch and I was able to get it to link. New problem: I am able to add it back to the scenes, but I can't get it to be 50% dim. Even though it is set to 50% on level in each scene it's in, it still comes on at 100% when the scene is turned on. When I adjust the dim level for a scene, I see it write sucessfully to the switch (and in fact, it goes to 50% temporarily). But when the scene goes off then back on it's back to full 100%.
LeeG Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 How is the Resume Bright option set? Around page 9-12 of SwitchLinc Owner's manual. What is turning on the SwitchLinc, a Program using the Scene name the SwitchLinc paddle another device It makes a difference as to what On Level needs adjustment or Resume Bright option.
jruben4 Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 I'm not sure what you mean by resume bright option. I can't find it in the SwitchLinc owner's manual. This is something set up on the switch itself and not in ISY?
LeeG Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Under "Local Settings"; "Local On-Level". Without knowing how the SwitchLinc is being controlled (my previous questions) it is one of the possibilities. Edited February 20, 2015 by LeeG
jruben4 Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 Is this somewhere in the admin console of the ISY?

LeeG Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Good set of questions. I asked them in post 15. Perhaps if enough folks ask them they will eventually be answered.
jruben4 Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 I'm going to call the switch I want to be 50% in scenes switch A. Ok, local on-level for switch A is set to 50%. If I turn the light on/off on the switch A, it goes from off to 50%. If I activate the switch on from any switch B, C, D that are controllers for scenes that switch A is a responder, switch A will go to 100%, even though I've set it to 50% in all these scenes. If I turn the scenes on from the ISY admin console, it works correctly, switch A comes on at the assigned 50%.
LeeG Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 In the Scene definition there is a Scene Name followed by all the Controllers of the Scene. These nodes will be in Red. Click the first Red Controller node below Scene name and set the Responder On Level as desired. Each Red Controller has a unique set of Responder On Levels. Click on each Red Controller and set the Responder On Level as desired.
jruben4 Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 Great, this fixed my issue, thanks! My problem was I was selecting the scene, then adjusting switch A's slider, instead of selecting the controller then adjusting switch A slider.
jruben4 Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 Also, it seems like the switch-to-switch communication works over RF or powerline, but any programming (extended messages?) requires a powerline only link.
