Cannot Add Themostat

Recommended Posts

Can someone help me add my Insteon Themostat back to my 994.  I have the latest firmware and have factory reset.  I have tried all 3 linking methods and always get the Cannot Determine Insteon Engine message.

Also, I have these old Insteon Signal Lincs in my house and I am not sure if they help of hinder.  How can I verify these things are working?  From what I can see you cannot link to them,

This last attempt yielded slightly diffrent results.  All other attempts had a unexpected Ack near the top.

What is INST-TX-I1 ?

Looks to me like the PLM cannot reach the tstat.  Need to mode the stat closer to a dual band device, the PLM or maybe use a plug in dual band device like a lamplinc or range extender in the vacinity of the tstat.

The old SignaLinc with the black external antenna will not cause a problem as I had them in use for years. Finally removed them because they were in the way. However, they will not help with any RF only device as the old SignaLinc operates on a different RF frequency.

Its funny that the tstat responds to the Linking request immediately when I press Set yet it cannot complete communications.

I tried again at 2 other locations and still no INST-SRX which is what I assume I need to see (not that I know much about this protocol).

Is this a bad thing?  Unexpected Ack imCmd=65 cmd1= 0x4C

The "Unexpected Ack" message is for a PLM message. It is not an error and has nothing to do with the the thermostat.

The device type information (05 0A) indicates it is a 2441ZTH which is the battery powered thermostat. This device goes to sleep so it will not respond to commands unless manually put into linking mode before starting add process.
