Mike Ippolito Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 There have been many discussions on the forum about the Aeon Labs Multisensor, and it's somewhat erratic behavior. I thought I'd post the solution we have found to ensure it will pair and work properly after install. What you'll need: Aeon Labs Multisensor Mini USB to USB cable (usually included with the Multisensor) USB brick or Laptop USB power Process: Orient the Multisensor with 5+/- feet of the ISY994Zw gateway. (Important) Plug in the Multisensor to a USB port or USB charging brick and keep it powered up through this whole process Exclude device using Z-Wave | Remove / Exclude Include device using Z-Wave | Add/Include Wait until both nodes show up (Binary & Multisensor Nodes) Rename them if you like now Click Options button in the Multisensor node Set notifications you would like by entering the number of seconds *then* check the boxes. If you just enter a number hit the up/down number button to send the value to the ISY. (this UI will not currently just take a number without hitting up or down) My recommendations (see attached photo): Temp/Humidity/Luminosity every 240 seconds, and battery every 720 Set "No Motion Timeout" to 5 seconds Ensure "Enable PIR" and 'Wakeup' are selected Select 'Done' Heal Z-Wave Network. Z-Wave | Tools | Heal Test Motion sensor by going to the 'Binary' Node and watching it when you trigger motion. It should trigger to 'On', 5 seconds later trigger off, then WAIT 15 SECONDS and you can trigger an 'On' again. This is important.. the motion sensor resets and will only pickup new motion after 15 seconds. By this time, the Multisensor Node should be showing Fahrenheit rather than Celsius. If not WAIT until it does, it will convert within minutes of this process, once it does proceed. You can now remove the USB power, install batteries, and install it in it's final location. Further Notes: Subsequent network heals will probably fail for this device due to it's aggressive sleep modes. You and *try* to keep it alive in its installed location by doing your daily jumping jacks during a heal if you really need to update it's neighbors. If you need to change options in it's installed location, ensure to trigger motion first, then hit the options button. Get your stuff done swiftly before it falls asleep again. Make sure your programs have the appropriate timeouts in them as the On/Off will happen every 5-15 seconds during motion. Create a program to send you an alert when battery levels drop below 10% as these do EAT batteries (30-90 days) This is for the non-v5 Multisensor. At the time of this writing the v5 was not released yet, so we don't know how it will work.
andyf0 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 You can press the include button 3 times in a row which will wakeup the sensor and keep it awake for 10 minutes, just like plugging in the batteries.
Mike Ippolito Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 You can press the include button 3 times in a row which will wakeup the sensor and keep it awake for 10 minutes, just like plugging in the batteries. Andyf0 thanks for that tip, I'm assuming you mean to do this after it is installed, I do not recommend doing that in lieu of applying USB Power.
andyf0 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 To be honest, the 10 mins it stays awake when the batteries are plugged in has been enough for me to get it included in the network and the options set the way I want them. Of course, I'm familiar with the options now and know what I want to set so it's easy to breeze through them. Someone new to the sensor will obviously want to browse through the options and take their time figuring out what to do so external power is definitely recommended in that case.
MWareman Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 The sensor itself enrolls differently depending on now its powered during enrollment. Mike's advise is spot on - power the sensor for enrollment for best results!
KeviNH Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 I've got it enrolled and hooked up to a power supply, it reports status well, but temperature is always Celcius? Any ideas on how to get it to switch?
Mike Ippolito Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 From my experience you need to give it more time. Alternately remove it and reinstall closer to ISY and leave it there until it flips to F Sorry for brevity - posted using mobile Tapatalk
robm Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 So I just got one of these devices. It is Gen5 version. 1. You said to hit the options button. There is no such button in the ISY interface. 2. When the PIR is triggered, the ISY does not update the status until I hit Query which make the PIR function fairly useless. Any tips? Thanks
Mike Ippolito Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 This is for the non-v5 Multisensor. At the time of this writing the v5 was not released yet, so we don't know how it will work. Item #5 in "further notes" of my post is snipped above. We have since tested the v5 multisensor and found anomalies in it's command set that we will be working on with our next Z-Wave update. Net/Net - I'm sorry but the v5 Multisensor is just not supported at this time.
fryfrog Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Their Gen6 multisensor is a month from coming out and I'd like to get one for every room in my house. Is it going to get support?
Michel Kohanim Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Hi fryfrog, We will definitely support it. Unfortunately I cannot give you an ETA but, tentatively, we are getting back to full Z-Wave in the middle of next week. With kind regards, Michel
slytsi Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi fryfrog, We will definitely support it. Unfortunately I cannot give you an ETA but, tentatively, we are getting back to full Z-Wave in the middle of next week. With kind regards, Michel I also really need this to work. I have a big need for the new Multisensor 6 that comes out in May. I have also been waiting since September to get support for the Aeotec smart strip to be fully supported.....I was told at that time that it was being worked on, so I won't hold my breath...
Mike Ippolito Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Slysti, I understand your frustration regarding the smart strip. Multichannel devices are extremely difficult to implement. As Michel has commented they are on the development schedule along with other Z-Wave revisions starting next week. I wanted to comment on the Multisensor 6 as we just heard back from Aeon yesterday. May seems like a stretch for general availability. They indicated it would be 3-4 weeks before firmware was finished and they do not have developer documentation available yet. Add Z-Wave certification to the timeline also... As soon as we get documentation we'll be able to assess what (if any) changes will need to be made to support the new multisensor.
slytsi Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Mike, Thank you for the honest answer. I just wish I was given an honest answer back in September so that I could have kept the Vera which handled it perfectly. I moved over to the ISY because I was told that the development was already in progress in September, and I had assumed that meant I would be relatively close to having the same functionality on the smart strips that the Vera offered. Let me restate that I believe that the ISY is a fantastic and reliable product with a dedicated team. I just feel that the Z-wave support is very limited and is years behind the competitors. I hope that the ISY can catch up or I will have to switch again.
Michel Kohanim Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Hi slytsi, Apart from multi-channel support, can you please let me know what else ISY cannot do and you wished it to do? With kind regards,Michel
slytsi Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Michel, All I am missing is multi-channel support. Apart from that the ISY is best in class. But for me, that is #1 feature I need. -Justin
Michel Kohanim Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Hi Justin, Excellent. It shall be implemented as soon as possible. With kind regards, Michel
Guitartexan01 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Hello all. I have a multi-sensor v4 and I have it working. It picks up temp, humidity, lumen, and motion. I'm trying to use the motion to trigger a light. Could someone give a step by step how to for this please? On mine, the motion and battery level share a separate screen as do the temp, humidity, and lumen. I can selectively call out any one of those three but am unable to do so with the motion sensor. That one shows in programs as battery level. I'm stumped. Perhaps exclude and include again? Any help would be much appreciated. GT
Guitartexan01 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 As with most things, given enough time and determination, one can usually figure things out. I have figured out how to utilize all the sensors, so disregard my request for help. GT
mschaefe Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Hi, any update on this support? I'm looking for a good solution for occupancy and temperature, and the Aeon Labs devices seem to look really good. I have a base ISY 994i, so the way it looks right now, I'm planning to upgrade to Z Wave support when the latest sensors are supported.
Michel Kohanim Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Hi mschaefe, It already works with 4.3.18. With kind regards, Michel
mschaefe Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Very cool! Is there an ETA for when the 4.3 series will be released?
LDWelton Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 ... By this time, the Multisensor Node should be showing Fahrenheit rather than Celsius. If not WAIT until it does, it will convert within minutes of this process, once it does proceed. ... Is there a way to keep the reading in Celsius? Thanks for any help.
Amigo Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Good evening, I also just got aeotec multisensor 6. I do not see an options button as supposedly was with previous versions? I also like to keep the temp reading in celsius, how to I flip it back from degF to degC? I am using ISY 5.02 cheers.
