natebeck72 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 All, I am having an issue with adding a Kwikset zwave lock set to my ISY. I get the lock to add, it shows up in my network, but then after about 5 minutes it seems to lose communication with the lockset. Also I noticed that it doesn't show the current status correctly. Has anyone else had this issue? I have removed and re-added the lock multiple times, but always with the same result.
Michel Kohanim Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Hi natebeck72, These devices need a beaming capable device in the network especially if it's far from ISY. Do you have any Z-Wave range extenders? Do you have any other Z-Wave devices? With kind regards, Michel
natebeck72 Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 I do not have any Z-Wave range extenders, it is about 10-12 feet from the ISY, but it is through 3 walls. This is my first z-wave device in the network, I will try to do a z-wave extender and see if that fixes my issues. Thanks!
Quasmo Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Just a follow up; I have had two of the Kwikset 914 locks for about 14 months now. If I had to guess, I used the motors on both an average of twice a day. Once when I wake up in the morning to take the dog out, and once at bedtime to lock up the house. Just last month I had to replace the batteries on both units, which would mean they would have made it 14 months without running out of battery. I have never had any communications issues between the ISY and the locks, but I believe that they are within range of the antenna, and don't need to use the mesh network.
fryfrog Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Nice, what kind of batteries does it use? Standard AA? I've got a Yale deadbolt that gets used much, much more frequently and I feel lucky if they last a couple weeks. But I'm using rechargeable when they specifically say not to use them. I've got a few on less frequently used doors and they last much longer, but still just a month or two.
