DEGoodrich Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I just installed a system that monitors my energy usage, and logs all deevices and caculates how much each load uses and costs. Now I can really see which of my energy saving programs are saving me. I am now experimenting with different things to see where my $$$ is being spent and what I can do to save. It is really cool to sit at the PC and control different devices and watch the graphs change in real time in the screen!
Michel Kohanim Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Hi DEGoodrich, Which Energy Monitoring system did you get? If possible, we would like to integrate with it. DEGoodrich Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 This One: http://www.brultech.com/HomeEnergy/HomeEnergy.html and software info: http://www.brultech.com/ecmsupportupdate.html That would be Great!
G W Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I think you'll find UDI is already working that.
Michel Kohanim Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 DEGoodrich, This is great! As Gary mentioned, we already have it working with ISY but you will have to get the ethernet version. With kind regards, Michel This One: http://www.brultech.com/HomeEnergy/HomeEnergy.html and software info: http://www.brultech.com/ecmsupportupdate.html That would be Great!
reakhavok Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Does the ISY 99i/pro currently support this energy monitoring device? or will it be in a future release? How exactly does/will ISY work with this? Would we still need to purchase the brultech software or would ISY replace the need for the seperate software? Thanks Gregg
Michel Kohanim Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hello Gregg, ISY 99i series will support this feature by the end of the week. ISY communicates with Brultech meter natively and thus you do not need separate software. With kind regards, Michel Does the ISY 99i/pro currently support this energy monitoring device? or will it be in a future release? How exactly does/will ISY work with this? Would we still need to purchase the brultech software or would ISY replace the need for the seperate software? Thanks Gregg
upstatemike Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I thought this depended on Brultech releasing a TCP/IP version of their monitor? Is this out now? Does anybody know how the system will work? I assmue it is ECM-1220 -> ? -> EtherBee -> LAN -> ISY-99i Not clear on what the ? is or how the local LCD display plugs into this configuration. Anybody seen any details yet?
MikeB Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Hey Mike - If you don't have anything already, my understanding is that you'll want an ECM-1240 that will either go hardwired serial into an ethernet adapter or use Zigbee to go to a wireless Etherbee adapter. I thought that the ECM-1240 was set to be released right around this time. I believe the ECM-1220 can take an Etherbee adapter as well, but I'm not sure on availability of that.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 upstatemike and Mike, They have both versions: 1. Meter -> EtherBee -> Network -> ISY .... this should be used if your router is far from your breaker. But, from my personal experience, I do not recommend it as it's not that reliable 2. Meter -> Network -> ISY ... this should be used if your router is close to your breaker In both cases, NK8 will get the information from ISY and displays it on the screen. With kind regards, Michel
upstatemike Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I don't see the 1240 on their site so I guess it's not available yet. My panel is in the basement so I will put an ethernet jack next to it and keep everything wired. I still want a wired display up in the kitchen though so I can see what is happening in real time.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 upstatemike, Why do you need a wired display? Perhaps we can ask MikeB to integrate meter information to NK8 (through ISY). MikeB Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 We do hope to have an official release supporting the energy use monitor within a couple weeks.
ulrick65 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Which verson do you recommend Michel to use with 2.6.9? I will place an order today for this, just tell me what I need to make it work with ISY. I have wired ethernet all over my house, with easy access to the breaker panel. I have wireless too...but don't need wireless, I have CAT5e right next to my breaker panel. Great Idea for MikeB...I am trying out the NK8 software right now and will definitely be getting it. Monitoring energy usage from NK8 would be cool. "What say you Mike?" Thanks. Eric
upstatemike Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 upstatemike, Why do you need a wired display? Perhaps we can ask MikeB to integrate meter information to NK8 (through ISY). With kind regards, Michel Maybe I will use this differently than most folks but I don't know why anyone would not want a display. One of the main benefits of having an energy monitor is to make you more aware of energy usage in real time so you can hopefully act to reduce consumption and save money. For this you need a dedicated display in a frequently travelled location (I want to put one in the kitchen.) I'm sure the NK8 display will be nice and I like having touch screens around for control points, but I do not like them for displaying information. By their nature you have to proactively go to them and select the display you want to see, which is good for control applications but terrible for alerting and informing. I prefer a pardigm where information is shared on a data bus so it can be displayed on dedicated displays, plus be available at on demand interfaces (touch screens, mobile phones, etc) and also available to automation devices that will act on the data for verbal warnings (Homeseer), load shedding (ISY) and logging/data analysis. I was hoping to put the Brultech LCD display in my kitchen where I can glance at it every time I walk by and where other family members will see the data and start to relate it to every day power usage. I also want to have the data on the network where it will hopefully be available to ISY and Homeseer. Am I the only person who wants to utilize the Brultech in this manner?
DEGoodrich Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 I have noticed the the latest FW supports this device. Ho do I set it up? Is the network module available yet?
Michel Kohanim Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Hi DEGoodrich, We have asked Brultech for more information on their Ethernet module. I shall keep you posted as soon as I hear back from them. With kind regards, Michel I have noticed the the latest FW supports this device.Ho do I set it up? Is the network module available yet?
DEGoodrich Posted December 15, 2008 Author Posted December 15, 2008 Is this an option?: "New Resident Server Software for ECM-1220 Provides ECM-1220 data access using simple API type commands Software sits in system tray Enables data access over a LAN connection Simple VB code available for easy start-up of custom software applications. Can be configured to send data to the client automatically based on specified "triggering" rules."
Michel Kohanim Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Hi DEGoodrich, It's not an option if you have to keep your computer running. Furthermore, we are using the same API within ISY. The main issue is that the ethernet version is not yet available. I have asked Brultech to post to this forum with their schedule but, as of yet, I have not heard anything back from them. MikeB Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I saw a post on another forum indicating Brultech will be closed until 12/22.
Dodger Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Mike, I have a system the monitors my energy usage it is called TedFootprints series 1001. www,theenergydetective.com I also use ISY 99i . Do you have a program that they will work together? John
