DEGoodrich Posted November 13, 2008 Share Posted November 13, 2008 I just installed a system that monitors my energy usage, and logs all deevices and caculates how much each load uses and costs. Now I can really see which of my energy saving programs are saving me. I am now experimenting with different things to see where my $$$ is being spent and what I can do to save. ISY communicates with Brultech meter natively and thus you do not need separate software. Does anybody know how the system will work? I assmue it is ECM-1220 -> ? -> EtherBee -> LAN -> ISY-99i Not clear on what the ? is or how the local LCD display plugs into this configuration. MikeB Posted December 4, 2008 Share Posted December 4, 2008 Hey Mike - If you don't have anything already, my understanding is that you'll want an ECM-1240 that will either go hardwired serial into an ethernet adapter or use Zigbee to go to a wireless Etherbee adapter. I thought that the ECM-1240 was set to be released right around this time. I believe the ECM-1220 can take an Etherbee adapter as well, but I'm not sure on availability of that. Meter -> EtherBee -> Network -> ISY .... this should be used if your router is far from your breaker. But, from my personal experience, I do not recommend it as it's not that reliable 2. Meter -> Network -> ISY ... this should be used if your router is close to your breaker In both cases, NK8 will get the information from ISY and displays it on the screen. My panel is in the basement so I will put an ethernet jack next to it and keep everything wired. I still want a wired display up in the kitchen though so I can see what is happening in real time. I will place an order today for this, just tell me what I need to make it work with ISY. I have wired ethernet all over my house, with easy access to the breaker panel. I have wireless too...but don't need wireless, I have CAT5e right next to my breaker panel. Great Idea for MikeB...I am trying out the NK8 software right now and will definitely be getting it. With kind regards, Michel Maybe I will use this differently than most folks but I don't know why anyone would not want a display. One of the main benefits of having an energy monitor is to make you more aware of energy usage in real time so you can hopefully act to reduce consumption and save money. For this you need a dedicated display in a frequently travelled location (I want to put one in the kitchen.) I'm sure the NK8 display will be nice and I like having touch screens around for control points, but I do not like them for displaying information. By their nature you have to proactively go to them and select the display you want to see, which is good for control applications but terrible for alerting and informing. I prefer a pardigm where information is shared on a data bus so it can be displayed on dedicated displays, plus be available at on demand interfaces (touch screens, mobile phones, etc) and also available to automation devices that will act on the data for verbal warnings (Homeseer), load shedding (ISY) and logging/data analysis. I was hoping to put the Brultech LCD display in my kitchen where I can glance at it every time I walk by and where other family members will see the data and start to relate it to every day power usage. I also want to have the data on the network where it will hopefully be available to ISY and Homeseer. Am I the only person who wants to utilize the Brultech in this manner? The main issue is that the ethernet version is not yet available. I have asked Brultech to post to this forum with their schedule but, as of yet, I have not heard anything back from them.
