Motion Sensor that's not battery operated?

Hi,

 

Is there a motion sensor (and not battery operated) that's compatible with ISY? I am tired of buying and changing batteries of my motion sensors regularly.

 

I have 1 Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave Multi-Sensor but it has to near ISY due I dont have z-wave extender.

 

Any recommendations please?

PS. As a workaround, I am currently using FOSCAM camera connected to Blue Iris. ISY variables will change state if triggered by IRIS. However, for privacy reason, I could install cameras in the bathroom .

The easiest solution is to purchase a similar 120 VAC motion sensor and attach it to a Insteon micro relay module or similar Z-Wave.

 

This would allow you to see and track the status of the bathroom light.

I'm understand your frustration. I won't use battery-only devices because of the way they work. The Insteon motion sensor is a joke and at best it is poorly designed occupancy sensor.

I successfully use both surface mounted and in-wall motion sensors connected to Micro Modules as suggested by Teken (#2). Post mounted, too!

Unsightly cord. requires a nearby outlet. OTOH, a line powered sensor requires a convenient electric box. I actually use all three methods, battery powered, battery eliminator and line powered

As opposed to a line powered MS without a cord?

 

I have one of those smart solar powered MS units that doesn't require a receptacle or batteries. Trouble is the thing turns the light on in the middle of the night to get charged up every six weeks! Seems to heck with user convenience now. The MS comes first.   )

Try the ecolink, it uses a lithium battery with 2-10 year life.

Yeah, funny how everything seemed to go from the 9v battery to the AA cells and then with miniaturisation to the AAA batteries that they held the price so high on.

 

Now everything seems to be heading back to the 9v (transistor) battery. Worst format made with it's bad connectors almost guaranteed to break the device connector after a dozen batteries have been inside. The battery has more insulation and space fillers between the cells and results in less energy per size of any battery so far.

 

...and now I have a drawer full of AAA   cells for X10 MSes that are going  out and can't afford enough 9v batteries for my Insteon MSes and every other device that seems to popularise the 9v back into existence.

 

The Lithium batteries seem like a good idea but very time I look at them I see no amp-hour capacity per $ gain over the alkaline types.

 

hmmmm...  maybe we need a running battery deal thread??

Power to my Motion Sensor is supplied over small guage - doorbell wire - run inside wall and upstairs to a receptical under desk in office. Maybe 30 feet. Enters wall directly behind sensor, not visable unless under close inspection. Sensor and wiring painted to match wall mounted on. Power is turned on during night and off during day, preventing unnecessary traffic on powerline. Switched by Insteon ApplianceLinc. Works fine, lasts a long time.
