Schoolhouse Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Hi, I am moving to a new home and am adding a new PLM / ISY. The new home currently does not have any automation. At the old home, I did lots of programming and I have a backup on my computer that will go to the new house. Two questions:1) How do I preserve the extensive programming from the old home in case I need it at the new home? 2) For a few more days, I still have access to the old home ISY. Do I need to do anything to help me preserve the programming for the new home before I lose access? Thanks!
Brian H Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) Are you bring all the Insteon devices from the old home to the new home or all new Insteon devices? If everything is new. None of the ISY backup data may apply to all new devices. Edited July 25, 2015 by Brian H
Schoolhouse Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 Thanks, Brian - No, I am not bringing any of the devices. I do understand the programs will need to be edited since "Basement 8" will now appear "missing unknown device." All the logic that went into the programs is what I am trying to preserve. Cheers, Tom
stusviews Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 You can copy the programs you think you'll need one-at-a-time (i.e., Copy to Clipboard).
Brian H Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I don't know the answer to your question. I am sure the programming experts here will have a much more detailed information for you.
larryllix Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) Backup old ISY data Need to get copy of old ISY variables and create in new ISY. There may be a better way to do this one. Maybe restore will create them??? Pull in the backup file into your new ISY with Restore. Rename all your devices by adding XX to the end of each name. -Install new Insteon device with same names (no XX) -Use find/replace to replace all occurrences of that device name using XX with device name not using XX -Delete device with XX Repeat above three steps until all XX's are gone. Save frequently in case of mistakes This is a PITA but the only way I know to preserve your code and swap in new Insteon addresses. Edited July 26, 2015 by larryllix
fryfrog Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Are you leaving the ISY for the people taking over your home? I've wondered what I'd do in this situation... I don't think I'd leave mine, only because I think it'd be beyond most users. Have you considered just leaving all the Insteon device only stuff setup and taking the ISY? Since the ISY writes scenes and such to the switches, you only need it for the advanced stuff.
