trevorst Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 I am looking to replace my ADT (old Brinks Honeywell system) and would like to use ELK because of the ISY integration. I know I can buy a new Honeywell system very cheap that would use all the existing devices (except keypads I believe). Can ELK use the existing devices and wiring ? Any input would be appreciated.
apostolakisl Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 The basic answer is, it depends. If you have the usual open/close circuit contactors and they didn't install an EOL resistor (or they installed one and it is the same 2200 ohms elk uses), then yes. If it is a wireless system, then it all depends on the details. This sort of question is really at the very simplest level of security system installation. I suggest you start doing a lot of reading (you might just download the elk installation manual) before deciding if you are up to the task.
trevorst Posted September 5, 2015 Author Posted September 5, 2015 Thanks.. I have been doing a lot of reading. Found good info on DCS and Honeywell alarms and reusing equipment, but ElK does not allow you into there documentstion or forums unless you already own an ELK unit. Hence my question here. I did find a ELK installation manual after I posted this message.
builderb Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Ugh yeah too much Elk info hidden behind that rule. I'm gonna get an Elk panel eventually, and I'm trying to plan for it now, but not owning an Elk makes that tough. I get why they do it though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Scottmichaelj Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 If you know the right people you might be able get what you need by asking I highly recommend Elk and the integration with the ISY is great. DSC is also a nice system but I still prefer Elk. I wouldnt touch Honeywell they are not AV friendly. Especially if you want to add remotes etc down the road.

Just go to the product page and click on manuals.
