Is there an open/close sensor that would work for outdoor use?  I would like to install one on the side gate of our house so it would need to be somewhat weather resistant.

I used a magnetic switch wired to an IoLinc at nearby area that was protected from weather, or you could connect the switch to a TriggerLinc.

I wanted to use that one but it wouldn't fit, so I used http://www.smarthome.com/seco-larm-sm-300q-wh-surface-mount-magnetic-contact-switch-normally-open.html and there is a normally closed one as well.

I imagine you could run heavier gauge wire several hundred feet and maintain signal from the switch?
