SOLVED - V1 PLM gone bad - V2 PLM restore somehow not working

Finally my V1 PLM died 2 days ago. (have backups from before and between steps)

Followed the procedure to unpowered everything. Installed the new PLM, then brought up the ISY, did the Restore PLM procedure and wrote all the changes to the devices (took hours).

http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:File_Menu#Restore_Modem_.28PLM.29

Now the ISY does not see any traffic from the INSTEON devices but can readily communicate with all of them. I have checked the PLM links on the devices and they show the new PLM address as link 0 and group 0. Restored various devices, even unpowered them but no matter what I try the ISY no longer gets INSTEON notifications like DON or DOF from any of the devices.

PLM version in the ISY status window shows v9E

Just recently upgraded the ISY to v4.3.26 - just before the V1 PLM died. Wonder if that SW upgrade had anything todo with this

Any suggestions would be highly welcome!

Thank you!

PS: In the attached screenshot you can see the normal volume of ON/OFF messages for the property

This sounds like there are not device links in the PLM.

Can you run Tools/Diagnostics/Show PLM Links table? How many links do you have? Can you  locate links to any of the devices that are not responding? The middle columns separated by periods are the device address.

Thank you!

That seems to be the issue. I only have 11 PLM links for 100s of devices. Why would the PLM Restore not place all other links in there too?

The firmware update should not have caused any problems. Did you also update the UI and clear your java cache and applications?

Hopefully you DIDN'T delete the old PLM from the ISY before installing the new one.

As Paulbates suggested the PLM links table will show if the new PLM is properly populated.

Did not delete the old PLM from the ISY. Just replaced the PLM per wiki procedure and performed the Restore PLM function. For some reason it seems the majority of PLM links are missing.

Unplug the modem and the ISY, wait about 15 seconds then plug in the modem, wait about 15 seconds then plug in the ISY then try another restore modem.

If that doesn't work and if you have a current ISY backup you could try restoring the backup and then do a restore modem.

Is your UI also 4.3.26?

Do you have devices with green 1011 icons in the device tree?

I had plenty of them, but wrote all the changes to the devices until they were all without green icons. A few devices did not take the "write changes to device" and I performed a "Restore Device" - This seem to be the ones that now have links in the PLM - but even those are not producing any notifications for the ISY.

Do a Show ISY Links Table for a SwitchLinc (something other than a KPL) and post the displayed popup.

Attached a screenshot with the various link screens as well as the PLM status.

Thank you for looking into this!

Thanks for the good data.  The device has no Controller link back to the PLM.

E2 01 3C 47 FA .. .. ..

Without the above E2 link the device will not send a message to the PLM.  Also the PLM is missing the following Responder link

A2 01 24 84 67 .. .. ..

without which the PLM will not receive messages from device.

The two link situations indicate File | Delete Modem (PLM) was issued.   This command results in the devices having the Controller links (E2) back to the PLM being deleted.

The solution is to Restore ISY a backup that was take before PLM manipulation was done.  This will restore the PLM link information to the ISY.  Then issue File | Restore Devices to rewrite the PLM Controller (E2) information to the devices and the Responder (A2) information to PLM.

Lee,

Thank you very much. I could have sworn I did not do a Delete PLM - but then again I have been trying so many things for the past 48h, clearly I must have done something wrong.

Would be great if a link as important as the PLM link could be auto generated by the SW rather than having to come from a full restore. It is what it is. Running restore right now.

I will report back.

Again thank you very much for your help!

Not too hard to click the Delete line by accident.   Keep us updated.

Thank you!

I am back in business. The Full ISY restore, followed by a PLM restore and Device restore did the trick. Now the missing links are back and correct and as you can see I am again getting ON/OFF events as expected.

Very much appreciate your help!

Well, I am not having much luck with this new PLM. Just over a month that I went through this ordeal and new the new PLM stopped working. Once again the PLM stopped receiving any ON/OFF notifications and with that all event driven programs stopped working.

Most of the Insteon Modules are now stable. Early one maybe not quite so stable.

It seems the 2413S PLM is an thorn in everyone's side. Both users and Smartlabs.

For the benefit of others can you indicate on the back what all of the information is listed as: hardware production, revision.

Please also state what the 994 Series Controller indicates as the firmware in place.

Lastly can you state the actual purchase date and where you bought the unit?
