df78 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Couldn't some sort of software HomeKit bridge module be implemented? There are already software bridges that can run on a separate PC (homebridge, home control). Why not have something that runs like this on the ISY itself? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

df78 Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Apple holds reign over anything involving HomeKit. Then how do explain homebridge? Apple can't stop anyone from making a software server that bridges HomeKit to other products... It's already being done... It would just be nice to have it running on the ISY instead of another computer. I'm running it on my Mac to controle my nest with HomeKit... It works just great. There is no reason a software modulal could not be made to run on the ISY. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

stusviews Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Anyone can modify, add on, or otherwise make use of a Homekit with no penalty nor law suit as long as it's not for profit nor "widely" distributed. If you want to do something with a Homekit device you own for yourself and/or a few friends go ahead and do it. But keep it private.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Apple MFi license and hardware certification requirements are overbearing and cost prohibitive. Apple also insists on a custom MFi chip for authentication and encryption. The fact you can perform the same in software on hardware with sufficient CPU is irrelevant. Any legal entity trying to circumvent Apple MFi licensing and certification will get squashed. Put homebridge on a Raspberry Pi and call it a day.
