I have been searching and not finding any good answers. I am new to HA, and running into the limits of the hub 2245 Budget is tight and I can get a used isy99i for about $40. looks like the program will transfer when I can afford the isy994 pro($219)

Currently installed;

9 2477D dimmers

2 on/off modules

1 motion detector

1 camera

3 LED lamps

Have but not installed

2342 4 scene controller

2486D 6 button switch

2475F fan link

Will it be just an effort in frustration to install the isy99i, The hub is so incredibly limiting without allowing and/or/if/then statements. Wife is not sold on Insteon LOL so spending $$ on the other controller is not a good idea. I understand there are no firmware upgrades coming for this unit. Any advice?

Thanks

I will state the obvious things in case you were not aware of them. The last 99 Series Controller firmware does not support lots of the current Insteon hardware. So in this case you might run into a situation where you're trying for hours to add a device and the system comes up with a whole bunch of random errors.

That is something you need to fully consider first . . .

Next, you need a 2413S PLM to work with the 99 Series Controller so unless the $40.XX get you both. You're going to have to shell out more money for that portion. Next on a more positive note lets assume all of your current Insteon hardware is recognized and works off the bat.

The 99 Series Controller is a fantastic little box to dip your toes into what the conditional logic will allow you to do and experience. I say baring the above *What Ifs* go to town and enjoy the system and learn more about what you can ultimately do with the 994 Series Controller.

My personal view is you save up until such time as you're able to finance a 994 Series Controller. Keeping in mind you can simply purchased the base model and upgrade anything when your finances allow.

That's my $0.00000000000000000000000001

The ISY99i and ISY994i need a serial PLM. So if you don't have one yet. You will have to add it to your list of needed parts.

If by chance the ISY99i has a old PLM with it. The older 2412S units have a 417 Link Database. The later 2412S had a larger Link Database. The 2413S is Dual Band.

If you have a 2412S it will power the ISY interface through the serial connection. The 2413S does not power it. So you may also need a wall wart power supply. 5 Volt 1 Amp was in my ISY994i kit.

Yes I understood that I would need to purchase this serial adapter. The adapter would need to be purchased for either unit as most kids do not come with them. Is there any place that actually list out what new items the 99 does not cover? Thank you for all the great information.
