stevekelso Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Hi KeithHey I am a little confused about Hooking up Alexia I am unsure what module to use and also I currently use MobiLinc Connect pro app on my phone and I am getting a confusing message ?Like I said I use MobiLinc on my iPhone to connect to my devices while I am out of the house.I just purchased an Amazon Echo after reading you instructions that looked pretty straight forward but I know went to the Module Page and I clicked on the ISY PORTAL I see the description it says it has a 2 Yr subscription but the big worry is it says ( This Module will Disconnect MobiLinc connect Module ) ???So I am unsure what to do as I want to continue to use the iPhone Mobilinc App because it cost me $70 or so but I would like to also use the Amazon Echo when I am in the houseIs there a way to set this up so Both will work ??I also see a Different Module on the page called (Vantage Point Portal) am I suppose to use that one instead? If you don't mind if you can explain what I might need to do to get both the MobiLinc App and the Echo to work together.I am going to try to attach a Picture of what the ISY Portal Module said ..ThanksSteve

Thanks Steve "Mobilinc Connect" != "Mobilinc Pro". Mobilinc Connect is the cloud service of Mobilinc. Check your settings in-app. Have you configured your app for 'Mobilinc Connect' or 'ISY'? If you are configured for 'Mobilinc Connect' (and have paid for a Mobilinc Connect subscription in addition to the cost of the app), then you don't need the Portal. Head over to the MobiLinc Connect instructions for using their skill. If you are using the 'ISY' connection type - you'd be better served subscribing to the ISY Portal - since this not only has a skill - but native 'Connected Home' interactions with Alexa. You'll also get the ability to connect to IFTTT. You can continue using the Mobilinc App as you currently do. Michael. Edited February 22, 2016 by MWareman
stevekelso Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Hi guys thanks for the response to this I got worried as I got all excited when I read the walk through on here but then I went and saw that message on the Portal right after I ordered Alexia and I thought OH NO! But I think I will be ok as I do pay a yearly subscription for MobiLinc Connect $29 YrI think I will take Michaels advice when I come up for renewal get the ISY Portal ..Alexia will be here in a day or so I will let you know how I make out and thanks to everyone for the awesome help ! Steve
stevekelso Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Hey Michael well I am lost Ok I see the Mobilinc Portal is installed in the ISY configuration page but I tried to follow the Mobilinc instructions and it First when I clicked on the Mobilinc Connect it signed me out I entered all the info and signed back in, and the rest was a disaster ... I could not find Anywhere in the Alexia App to search for anything, let alone mobilincLet me try to make this easier for me I would rather just Buy the $49 isy Portal Mainly because I don't have to keep saying ( Alexa Ask Mobilic ) That seems like a pain in the ***You said If I go this route purchasing the ( ISY Portal ) I would Still be able to somehow connect the Mobilinc App to this new Portal & use Echo was that correct ? As I said before it said that it would Deactivate Mobilinc Connect Module ( I don't loose that in case this all goes Badly do I) I am assuming I could just uninstall and reinstall purchased Modules ?I will wait to here from you before I buy the Module so I don't mess anything up ..I'm guessing once the New ISY Module is installed and shows up active I can add that new Sign in to the Mobilinc App instead of using the Mobilinc connect that's currently checked right? Then just follow the Dir on here to enable it with the echo I am also guessing.Sorry for all the hand holding but this is all new to me adding stuff to the ISYThanks in advance for your help!Steve
Michel Kohanim Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Hi Steve, No problem at all. What you need to do: 1. Request for MobiLinc Connect to be deactivated: send your UUID (Help | About) to support@universal-devices.com 2. Purchase the ISY Portal Module (Help | Purchase Modules). Once that's done, make sure to follow the instructions here (http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Portal_Installation_Instructions) to setup your Portal Account 3. Configure MobiLinc to use ISY Portal instead of MobiLinc Connect: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Portal_MobiLinc_Configuration 4. Configure Echo Connected Home Feature: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Portal_Amazon_Echo_Integration With kind regards, Michel 2
stevekelso Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Hey MichaelThank you for all the information it looks doable now.. I saw a video on one of the links you sent me that pretty much walks you through the process. My big question is, Can I set this up so I can simply say (Alexa- turn on the ( Living Room Light ) -- I am hoping I can use this simple command ?Or am I going to have to constantly say (Alexa - Ask Izzy to Turn On the Living Room Light ) ?I did go through the ISY and Used the Notes for each item and gave the simple spoken word: example: (Living Room Lights) The second way always having to (ask Alexia to Ask Izzy) - kind of make me feel like the lazy guy on the couch who asks his wife to do everything for me... LOL!Hopefully that's not the case ThanksSteve

pwaara Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Hi, I can't seem to get this to work. I have the Portal purchased and connected. I have ISY connected to my Alexa. I can say open ISY and Alexa responds asking me what I want to turn oh, so this all looks good. However, when I run Discover Devices in my Alexa app, it cannot find any connected devices. I can't figure out why it won't discover the devices. Any help? I was really hoping to show this off at a dinner party today, but it looks like a fail. Any advice on how to get Alexa to discover my devices? Really need some guidance here. ~Pat Edited March 6, 2016 by pwaara
stusviews Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Open the portal and browse to Spoken Nodes & scenes. How many entries are there (bottom of list)?
pwaara Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 There no Spoken Nodes or Scenes in the list. If I go to Device or Scene, I see the list of my devices and scenes. Do I need to add them individually?
MWareman Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 There no Spoken Nodes or Scenes in the list. If I go to Device or Scene, I see the list of my devices and scenes. Do I need to add them individually?Yes. Give each device/scene/program you want to control a spoken name. Then run a discover. Michael.
pwaara Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Hmm, I added seven scenes with spoken words, but running Discover Devices still says could not find any connected devices. Could there be something in my router getting in the way?

MWareman Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Hmm, I added seven scenes with spoken words, but running Discover Devices still says could not find any connected devices. Could there be something in my router getting in the way?Make sure that you're adding to the spoken name field on my.ISY.io - and not the spoken name field in the ISY Admin Console (which isn't used for the Alexa Connected Home API). If you log onto Alexa.Amazon.com and go into the Connected Home settings - do any devices show up there?

I just added a spoken phrase to a scene and didn't see it in the list until closing then reopening the tool. Jon... Yes, the scenes are showing in the "Spoken Nodes and Scenes List." I have not added any devices yet. I would prefer to use scenes to make sure the connected controllers get updated correctly. I've also noticed that my internet has been going down frequently since adding the portal. If I reboot my router, internet comes right back. I think there is a weird interaction going on here. I have an ASUS RT-N66U with the latest firmware.

When I log into Alexa.amazon.com, there are no devices displayed in the Devices section. The ISY does show as linked in the Linked Devices section. Very confusing. I keep suspecting the router.

pwaara Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Did you enable the ISY skill? Yes, the ISY skill is enabled.
pwaara Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) How long have you had the router? I haven't heard any reports of the Portal affecting a router so I don't know but you might try disabling UPnP Jon... I've had the router for three years. No problems previously. I have several port forwardings set up, including my Echo/Sonos integration on port 5005, which is why I thought there may be a conflict. What port does the ISY talk through? Also, check the routers error log for clues. Jon... Nothing obvious in the logs. It looks like when the router went out it was a dns issue, so maybe I'm just being paranoid.
