Socket open failed java.net.SocketTimoutException error

Tonight I tried to remove a scene that was controlled by a now faulty 2404 wireless controller. When I tried to remove it I was given a dialogue box to put the 2404 into programming mode. Well I don't have that 2404 anymore, its faulty so I expected the ISY to complain a bit then get over it and remove the scene... WRONG!

It hung there repeating its attempt to contact the 2404 over and over. It finally gave up and the program hung in fine Windoze fashion. Now I get the error "Socket open failed java.net.SocketTimoutException error" when I start the ISY user interface. I can't control anything, sometimes it wont start right.

I rebooted the computer, still the same.

How can I fixed this and how do you remove units that are no longer working?

thanks

Well that was fun. After about 30 minutes of the Rx light flashing on the ISY and the PLM light flashing... the house lights starting turning on and off, then everything went off and the ISY stopped talking.

Brought up the interface and all is fine again.. Scary eh kids!

Hello RF_Burns,

I do apologize for the inconvenience. Two questions:

1. What version of ISY firmware do you have?

2. Has it actually removed your faulty device?

By the way, what is 2404 as I cannot find any reference to it in SmartHome.

With kind regards,

Michel

Sorry, its a 2440 wireless remote control.

It did not get removed, its still there. I'm using ver 2.6.5.

I tried making some other changes to scenes, I did a couple of changes, now it won't talk to any Insteon devices. I was reading some other threads and that sounds like a problem others are having too.

Hello Bruce,

Would you be kind enough to try and remove it again. This is what happens: ISY tries 3 times for each command, and, if your RL is involved in many scenes, this is going to take a long time.

Alternatively, you could let us log in remotely to your system to see what's going on.

Michel

I found I had to power-cycle the PLM and the ISY26 to re-establish communications.

I was trying to remove the 2440 from the scenes first. Each time I tried that the system would sit there "system busy" for ever (well I would power cycle it after 15-20 minutes) Then I tried removing the whole 2440 device, this did the trick. The 2440 is gone from the system now.

Now I just have to wrap my head around Scene's and KPL button function... I'll post questions about that in a new thread!

Thanks!
