PLM Failure, Z-Wave also not working

I guess it was just a matter of time.. also experienced PLM failure, but i also have quite a few Z-Wave devices on my network which i expected to keep working.

Seems when the ISY994 enters safe mode, it cannot do anything else?  Is this by design?

I would think it would work without the PLM, and eventually, as my Insteon devices fail (seem to be 2-3 years on switches, this PLM was 4 years), i will replace with something more reliable, but ISY should function..

Thank you,

Steve

I haven't looked at the 5+ versions, but all the Z-Wave versions are meant to run Z-Wave devices with or without the PLM. It's also been recommended by Michel if you're running Z-Wave only or a combination of Z-Wave and Insteon. Other than losing functionality, Insteon devices, scenes and programs will net be affected.

Thank you all -

BTW, the PLM seemed to short out after a normal reboot of the ISY from the console.  I found that peculiar -

I am running the ISY with a separate power supply, but the PLM can also provide POE.  Am I not supposed to run this way?

What's the indication the the PLM seemed to short out? Also, if the PLM provides power for the ISY, then you probably have a 2412S which is somewhat old. There's no need to supply power twice.

I have the 2413s unit .. PLM green light went out, and software went into safe mode. Was wondering why a soft reboot would cause, perhaps just coincidental?

Was working fine up to reboot...

The 2413S has NO power on the serial port RJ45 connector. Only the older 2412S had unregulated 12 volts on the serial connector.

When the 2413S power supply is going bad. One of the indications is a dim or Green Led out.

Sometimes a power cycle of the PLM will give it enough to restart for a short time.

Another indication is the Link Database is empty.

The ISY controller checks for a PLM connected on a soft or power cycle reboot. Your PLM may have failed and found when you did the soft reboot.
