2441zth thermostat not sending updates

So.. I have a 2441zth thermostat I've recent added in to my system.  I do have it hard wired\AC as well.

The problem is it's not sending updates to the ISY..  supposed to be 60 seconds on AC, 15 minutes on battery...  I've changed the set point, watched the humidity change, use a hair dryer to bring it up 15 degrees...  The ISY never reflects any changes...

Now if I query with the ISY, I will get updated values, HOWEVER not temperature as cannot query temperature... Thus temperature is always blank, and values are only updated when queried...   not acceptable..

I know this isn't by design.. any ideas??

Factory reset and make sure it is complete then link it again. IIRC ISY does not have a definition for the 2441ZTH and will link to it as a 2441TH only.

I have one that is controllable and one that isn't, different firwmares. Both will report temperature changes when it happens only and both report humidity on a heartbeat continuous basis.

2441ZTH was never shown in the pulldown devices list in ISY.

i\I have two and both show the correct type after reading the device type and version. Both have different features that work and neither have all the controls work. Even some of the program lines do not work with them. eg. temperature increment/decrement sends nothing.

If you are powering the zth with a dongle, remove the power for a couple of minutes. Restore the power to the device and wait a few minutes for it to update.

I have found that mine does this occasionally and since I am not at that location for months during the winter, I placed an ApplianceLinc between the dongle and the outlet. Thus, I can interrupt the power remotely and reset the stat as needed.

When you installed them did you use the address and auto discover, Mine correctly display in the ISY as 2441ZTH

I don't understand the term dongle used with a power supply. I you refer to a wallwart AC adapter, yes I am using one but that won't change the available devices in ISY in the menu list.

I use that technique for my WC8 weather station board.

Factory reset, and re-add did not work... communication from isy to thermostat works fine, but thermostat does not send any changes, or temperature back to ISY...

Also tried pulling batteries and A\C for a few minutes, still no luck.

I used a hair dryer on mine for a few seconds to force an update into ISY

Then to force the outputs to update ISY I cranked the setpoints high and then low

Humidity should update by itself.

This fools many people into thinking the stats are defective.

The stat never reports anything but humidity on a time basis.

Hairdryer didn't do anything either.

At the least the humidity should report every minute or minutes regardless.

If you can't get that working check your event list on the admin console on  level 3.

If that isn't working you may have comm problems or just plain defective stat.

I know mounting an RF device tight against a piece of wood or drywall can be a problem getting the signal out to where it needs  .

Try locating closer to your PLM or a dual-band echoing device that does work consistently.

Examine the event log again on level 3. You should be able to see that humidity update.

yeah, no communication at all from the unit in event viewer.. and its just sitting on a table.. also 13ft from dual band keypadlinc.. also receives communication fine..

so guessing bad tstat?

Sure sounds like it.

I know I had to factory reset mine quite a few times before I got a decent connection with ISY.

I have just checked my two units and ISY V5.0.4 is really not co-operating with them. The 2441ZTH is still not a listed supported device but I am about to try to completely destroy the ISY record of them, factory reset, and relink them to ISY to see what another year of ISY developement has done.

Me thinks they link in as a 2441TH and proper protocols are not supported. The increment/decrement has never worked depite manual controls working and ISY knowing the temperature from the stats. That is an ISY bug, in my book. With V5 I could stuff the temp into a variable, increment it, and then put it back if I wanted to.

OK I just factory reset my one2441ZTH stat.

What a PITA. I have v5.0.4 but this is the same thing I remember with v3.xx

This thing would not link properly to ISY for about an hour and  a half of resetting and linking.

The best I could get was the Heat/Cool mode would report and contact/outputs would update. Humidity never updated.

I tried the power cycle factory reset mode about 5-6 times with no success.

Then I tried the set key reset method probably 25-30 times and finally everything updated in ISY.

Each time I monitored the parameters for change with a light blinking program...nothing.

I tried several times using the 2441TH definition, instead of the automatic find but exactly the  same response, just contacts/outputs and heat/cool mode would update and no other parameters.

When it finally clicked I left it alone for fear of losing the ISY setup again.

I only show three links listed for the stat to the PLM. This seems like too little but al one way comms are working again and none of the ISY controls are working as I started with....so no luck.

For some time I could get parameters to update only by querying the stat but then that quit again later.

My suggestion is to keep on trying. ISY has no definition for the 2441ZTH and I suspect the support was never installed or never defined properly but somehow works partially as a 2441TH unit.

For all the posts claiming they can see the device type,  I know it shows 2441ZTH on the device page that it read from the device. That doesn't indicate support.

I have had intermittent problems with the zth since the day I installed it. It is the least dependable Insteon device I own. The unit is located remotely and only used to report temperature. In my primary residence I switched to two Honeywell RTH9580W's. They have been fantastic units. Their only downside is that in addition to local manual control they are programmed and remotely controlled using a Cloud-based service. Thus far, no problems. They are easily controlled with an app on my phone from anywhere, Finally, Michel has indicated these stats will be included in the ISY in the near future. They are beautiful stats in contrast to to the zth. I love them.

If the ZTH stats were $39 it would make more sense.

I blame the stats as well as UDI for not having support for these devices, years after release to the market.

I have one earlier firmware that works almost perfectly except for when I upgrade ISY firmware. It did correct some of the parameters dropped when I factory reset it. This was not unit as the subject of the previous posts I made but a second unit.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have to wireless thermostats, one works, one doesn't work, weird.

I just ran across the same problem with a 2441ZTH

Hardware version 1.50

Firmware version  0E

It reports humidity but not temperature. A factory reset didn't resolve the problem.  I have several other 2441ZTH with earlier hardware and firmware that work perfectly.

I'm doing an RMA on this one.

The current 2441ZTH is hardware version 1.6,  Hopefully they corrected a flaw in the previous release.

I hope you attempted to force an update with a hair dryer or some hot breath on it before giving up on it.

The 2441ZTH takes about 1.5 degrees before sending updates.

Humidity sends on a cyclic timed basis. Longer on batteries than on AC power.

Init to variables need to be set so that upon power cycling ISY it has a current/stale temperature to work with otherwise ISY assumes a 0 degree reading until the next temperature send.

I tried everything to no avail. I ended up doing a RMA.

Well I have one that wroks perfectly and a newer one that ISY can't control.

So who knows what new jumble SH has come up with and not told anybody?

The RMA was probably the best bet while the iron is hot.

What's the date code and firmware version on the problem unit?
