remote internet access to isy99i

I have a linksys WRT54GS ver 2.1 router and a ISY-99i Pro Udi. I would like to be able to access it remotely via the internet. I have a Dyndns account and have the updater working on my computer. Although I enabled the internet access in UD Admin Console I can't acess remotely.

Is there a detailed step by step set of access instructions for my router model?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm not familiar with setting up that router but the DYNDNS information should be setup in the router. You mentioned you have the updater setup on the computer. If I am correct this would give access to the computer not really the router.

The goal is to have DYNDNS allow you to find your router from the internet, then use port forwarding rules , maybe port 443, setup in the router to get access to the ISY.

There are a few posts for setting up remote access on the forum. Not sure if you have checked them out but they could be useful.

I'm not sure if there is anything on the forum for that router exactly but the manual for the router should be all you need.

From here, the manul for the router, ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wrt54g_ug.pdf I think page 28 starts a description for DDNS

DDNS - Allows you to enable the Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS)

feature, so a fixed domain name can be assigned to a dynamic Internet IP

address.

This is where you will want to add your dyndns info. If it is done on the PC and the PC is off then you may not have the accurate IP that your router is getting.

From there you'll want to look at page 56 for the port forwarding section. Here you'll want to make up a rule for HTTPS port 443 access to ISY's lan address. 443 is the default secure access port, you can and probably should change this to be more secure. To start I'd try and get it to work with 443.

Basically the DYNDNS account allows you to find out where your router is on the internet, ie, what IP your provider is giving you. Once you connect to your router (IP), your router needs to direct the traffic on your LAN to your ISY, this should be done on a secure port.

Can 80 or 443 be used?

I believe I may have a problem with my router. I've set up port forwarding. Also, have set the DDNS service up. The router says it is set up successfully, but it does not display my current external ip address. It displays more of a internal format. I've been looking on the Linksys forums for more info.

If I can ever make a external connection I will inquire how to make it more secure.

Hello bbb2008,

What version of ISY firmware do you have? I think it would be best to call our tech support to get this situation resolved.

With kind regards,

Michel
