paulw Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 For those of you who have experienced a power supply failure. Has anyone found that the LED remains on but still has a blown power supply? Had a series of power interruptions yesterday which left me with a non usable PLM. Have the parts to rebuild, but did not want to waste my time if it is not the PS. Just seemed strange that the LED would remain on. Paul
paulbates Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Paul Did you try factory resetting the PLM? Sometimes unexpected behavior is addressed that way
paulw Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) Factory reset gave me a green light and a buzz while button was pressed, and brought no joy! I suspect it is more than the PS even though it is about the time it could be going bad. Edited September 15, 2016 by paulw
Brian H Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Have you tried. Powering down both the ISY controller and PLM. Wait maybe 30 seconds. Power the PLM back up and let it initialize. Them power the ISY controller back up.

I passed the 2 year mark from installation on mine 2 months ago. It was a "refurb" so its probably even a few month more older than that. I have a spare PLM in a box ready to go.... Paul
apostolakisl Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Replace the capacitors, 99% chance it comes back to life.
paulw Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 I was just curious if others found the LED to function with a bad PS.
apostolakisl Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) I was just curious if others found the LED to function with a bad PS. I think one of the two I have fixed still had the led on, or at least partially lit. I still think you have a 99% chance that the caps are bad. Edited September 16, 2016 by apostolakisl
paulinlapine Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Paul To answer your question, yes, I had a PLM fail and the LED remained on. No amount of resetting would bring it back. Did the capacitor replacement and it came to life again. Still working a year later. We'll see how long the fix lasts. Paul
Brian H Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I too had a PLM with the LED on and not be working. It was not full brightness. That I mainly noticed after changing the capacitors and seeing it brighter.

That I mainly noticed after changing the capacitors and seeing it brighter. That sounds about right for my first one. My second one died and the led was off. Both fixed with cap replacement. I probably have a year of use now on the one replacement, the other I did a 24 hour burn-in and put away as a backup.
