iR sender - 2411T won't connect

The new iR sender module I just recived shows v0.4A formware in it.

ISY can see it, read it's ID but refuses to connect with a

"failed to connect"

each time. I tried a dual band piggy-backed on it but the same results. It seesm to be communicating OK and ISY has the device listed in the pulldown but I suspect a new protocol that isn't supported by v5.0.4...maybe?

IIRC Rast...reported a similar problem with his.

v5.0.5 didn't solve the 2411T refusal to install.  I didn't figure it was on the board for UDI, with the lump jumping they have been doing lately.

Hopefully it will have a fix for all those that bought them during the SH iR Sending unit sale, recently.

I finally tore the 1/8" jack off the iR sender cable since the unit is garbage anyway. (shiiping to return cost more than the warrantied 2411T)

The iR LEDs were wired backwards. I patched another 1/8" jack together with the supplied cable and plugged it in. Voila! Red LED flashing when sending codes.

SH QC is a joke and a lie. This unit would have never got out the door if they performed any testing on this unit at all.

Now to make v5.0.7 actually link with it. The instructions in the admin console screen box make no sense and don not work. Linking worked a few times but very intermittently. occasionally another linking box pops up and I have had one success with one code but cannot mange to get it to connect again for more programming.

The latest device version they shipped me, and I waited three weeks before they shipped from the Labour Day sale is

V1.A, 1444, That's right... 44th week of 2014. Thanks Smart Home for wasting my money and always delivering the latest firmware and product release. Jerks!

I have been determined to stick with one system. Insteon but ZWave is starting to look much better to me, every SH day.

Can you point out the steps that are giving you trouble?  I'm wondering if the 2411T firmware version is causing any issues.

In the past, customers had to have SH reflash the 2411T with an older firmware (v1.49 I believe) because of the major API changes they made in follow on versions that were incompatible and didn't give us enough control over the device to set links etc.

It all seems to go OK, until step 5, which never happens.

I allowed about 15 minutes, one trial, and it just seemed to time out, and the LED stopped blinking. No linking data was received after on the same trial.

On step 7 I click OK and nothing happens. It did work a few times, when I first got the unit with the bad iR cable, but now I can't make it work at all.

Step 1 sometimes doesn't go into linking mode and wont blink. It takes many tries at double taps to make it work sometimes.

Not ISY related but...I have discovered the recording of the iR code has no intelligence. Other smart remotes, I have experienced, want many repeats of the code sample to ensure they have it correct via repeat verification and then extract one good pattern of the code for sending. This unit records and iR sends as many repetitions as you hold the button down for while recording. This can take a lot of time if the pattern is not kept short while recording.

Here is a level 3 Event log from factory reset (first line) to giving up at step 7 and tapping again to stop the flashing link LED.

ISY-Events-Log.v5.0.7__Mon 2016.12.05 09.43.24 PM.txt

The iRLinc IP address is  33.54.2A. I don't see that appearing in the event logs but lots of another  address.

27.1B.85  which is a KPL in another room.

The ISY is not actually involved until step 7. If you're setting up the IR Linc in its final location, you may want to try in a more convenient place.

Thanks  Stu

The event log shows ISY getting involved at step 4 as soon as the button is held down to link.

Mon 12/05/2016 09:41:58 PM : Stop Insteon Device Linking Mode, Final processing to follow

It just doesn't seem to do any ACK to the iRLinc to shut the flashing off as per Step 5.

EDIT: Listed step 6 and 7  in error.

The IR Linc is powerline only. Is it plugged in on the same circuit as your AV gear?

hmmmmm. No, AV gear is inverter backup up and this circuit isn't.  It's an extra circuit that runs around the room dodging AV and Network closet gear circuits. LOL

A few Hue and MiLight bulbs running on it. I plugged an On/OffLinc into the duplex receptacle at the base of the 10' long extension cord.

When I did get it to link (a few times) and ran a test program to test the iR 100 times, the iR flashing pattern and blue linking LED  never seemed to miss. So I assume the Insteon signal gets there OK. That may be my next try to take it into another room circuit.

Keep in mind that creating links is a lot more intense than controlling them. An especially clean circuit helps when creating those links.

Thanks.

Another day. After finding the iR LEDs wired back to back and the way the thing acted erratically and different so many times, and now it doesn't link at all, I am a little disheartened with it, and so close to the garbage too. :)

I may give up on this route and go buy different AV equipment. Time for some Anynet+ stuff anyway. LOL

If Step 5. fails then there is either something wrong with the communications between your PLM and the 2411T, or there is something wrong with devices themselves (defective or possibly wrong firmware level).  Not that it helps you with your immediate problem, but we've tested this again this morning, and everything links correctly here.

The firmware version of the 2411T we tested is v.4A

I have the iRLinc cable fixed and can repeat iR commands to operate devices successfully.

However no such luck linking it and transferring commands to ISY, even with an On/Off module plugged into a Y split short 20"" extension cord.

I changed the location of the iRLinc to a 15" extension cord lugged into the same duplex receptacle box as the PLM.

I factory reset the iRLinc about 40 times with various attempts and sequences as the onscreen instructions don't seem to make things respond correctly. Linking mode first, admin console linking menu first, add iR commands first etc..

Each time I factory reset the iRLinc and instigated the linking mode from the admin console I know it comm'ed with the module because it beeps very clearly.

However the event viewer level 3 shows it drops out each and every time with this

After, I can install an iR command and repeat it with the test OK

When I double tap the LED starts slow blinking but never stops and no traffic with ISY is witnessed on PLM/ISY LEDs or event viewer.

One occasion after the double tap to link it seemed to double beep and the LED return to dim steady on.

I clicked the OK on the dmin console link instruction box and this appeared but the link look incorrect.

Here is that.

I got to this point several times at random but could not ever add any more iR commands as the linking would never complete.
