I am upgrading my existing ISY99 to a 994zw and have a PLM2412s. Can I use my existing PLM with out any issues? Is there anyway to turn off the unregulated power from the PLM and use the external ps?

Well if you want to open the 2412S and cut the fuse off of the Serial Port Daughter board. It will kill the unregulated 12 volts out.

The 2413S ships with the fuse not installed.

Ok, so no worries of burning out the ISY or zwave module using the serial power? Thought I read that somewhere once upon a time.

The only time I could envision a problem is (IF) you decided to insert an external PSU at the same time a 2412S PLM was in use. Then again none of us know if the hardware can *Auto Detect* this and disconnects the external power source if it sees voltage on the RJ45 jack.

Yes, but you have to open the PLM.

I have no problem using a 2412S plus an external power supply. From the ISY User Guide:

Even if using a 2412S PLM, there are several reasons why you may want to use a separate
AC adapter instead of power provided by the PLM:

  •  An AC adapter can be plugged into a UPS to help protect the ISY from power outages and power surges. The PLM cannot be plugged into a UPS.
  •  Powering the ISY using a separate AC adapter may help improve (by a small amount) the signal strength of the INSTEON PLM.
