Ajax Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I swear it's like a drug, I keep banning myself from that site. But I just can't help it! I have to see all the new tech. Just found this, compatible with Insteon: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/901859853/sevenhugs-smart-remote-the-first-remote-for-everyt?ref=nav_search
oberkc Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I want one too, but can wait for actual hardware. When they claim "insteon" I wonder if this is limited to the hub.
cnutco Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 That is a great question! Insteon, sure, but what about UDI with the ISY? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
larryllix Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 They don't claim any Insteon hardware, only WiFi, BT, and iR. That's a very expensive remote at $300.
stusviews Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Insteon is in their list. The assumption is that you have a WiFi, Bluetooth or InfraRed device that can control Insteon. The Hub meets one of those requirements, so does the ISY with an IR module. Not the best of solutions for an ISY user.
oberkc Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 The assumption is that you have a WiFi, Bluetooth or InfraRed device that can control Insteon. Hopefully, that is the correct assumption. I just compare this to the harmony remote. It, too, claims insteon compatibility. Unfortunately, any such compatibility is limited to the hub. Can I control the ISY with IR? Sure. Can I control the ISY with a harmony? Sure (I can control the ISY with ANY IR remote.) But, I view that more as a credit to the ISY rather than any unique compatibility of the harmony with insteon. Hopefully, it will be different with this kickstarter project.
larryllix Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 All dreamware! They post a picture of brand name logos and all the suckers dream those things are related somehow. Started in January 2014 and they will only get their first version released in June 2017, despite 14 times the funds they requested? I would rather dream about remote control by thought and put some logo pictures on my wall for nothing if that is all it takes. My Samsung phone has been doing all that (iR, BT, WiFi) for three years now. We'll see what really pans out (wink, wink)
