ELK Outputs

Here is a quick look at where I am with Elk Outputs.  I am pushing them into the same customization stream as regular ISY nodes.  I have not added any options for timed off counter yet, but I wanted to get some input before this starts to work itself into stone.

Looking good!

When the user has customized the name in Agave, is it possible to display the original name somewhere low-key?

Otherwise, I really like the custom status and custom button implementation!

How can the data be backed up and imported to another device?

I'm Gary Funk and I wrote this message.

This as well!!!! (Allow 'Export to...' with the app creating a password protected .zip file that gets sent to Androids 'Share' workflow), as well as 'Import from...' that has a file picker to locate the .Zip, import and overwrite the application data..

Optionally, allow not password protecting the .zip, but don't include the ISY/Portal credentials in it...

The original is displayed above the custom name.  Or are you referring to the list view?

I'll figure it out.   please start a separate thread though.

Looks great.

It would be better to put the "always show" check box in a list view, maybe with a "select all" at the top of each page.  If you have lots of outputs you want to show, it would be tedious to go one at a time.  But, I guess not the end of the world.

I'll think about it.

When it comes to the auto off timer.  What would be the preferred the way to choose or enter a time?

1) number picker (5 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc...  1 hour)

2) number text input box

Order of action:

press button -> enter number -> go

enter number -> press button -> go

should the timeout number be static to output for later use?

should the timeout be entered each time the action is performed?

Wow. Hummm.

The time is in seconds but could it be entered as h.m or s? Enter number in text box and Go.

in ISY programs your only option is seconds.

in Elk RP2 Rules programming, you get days hours min seconds.

Both have a checkbox to activate the timer.  Otherwise it is just an open ended on command.

I would much prefer the RP2 way.  Though "days" is probably over kill.

I think it would be nice if whatever time you entered stuck so that the next time it was there for you without doing anything.  My bet is, people who run an output with a timer have a high chance of needing the same thing to happen with each use.  For example, I have elk outputs connected to my garage door opener.  100% of the time I want it to turn on for 1 second.

Can I get a screenshot of the RP2 timer programming screen?

The RP2 interface is a pain to work with. Try using it without a mouse. I have a great dislike of that software.01ff363b17ef1235b1e332423fd9c2b6.jpg

Since we don't have a mouse on our phones I feel if entering it as

d.h.m.s or x.x.x.x

Will offer a very flexible option. If i want 300 seconds it can be entered as

300 or 5.0

2 hours can be

2.0.0 or 120.0

I like this idea if it's easy to same the last used time per output. If not it can be added to the bug tracker for a future enhancement.

I don't thing I will allow that.  I will probably just have number pickers and adjust through increments.

I hope you make it easy and fast to input. I can never get a slider to work in the first try.

It's much easier to input 6 characters than it is to move a slider 15 times to get the correct number.

Maybe. But as a data conversion and migration developer, I know all to well the issues with malformed data. I really don't want to give the option to input incorrect data if I can help it. Sometimes it is warranted, but not in this situation.

I can't disagree with you on malformed data entered my humans. I've been fighting that battle for 45 years.

You said slider.

It's a simple misunderstanding on my part because I grew up before the graphic interface.

I don't love that style of timer, but it will do.  I would rather just type in a number.  But if that presents problems when someone types in 85 seconds or whatever when the logic calls for 1 minute 25 seconds, then I can deal with it.

LOL..  I did not.  I said number pickers and slide through.....  I changed the wording just for you Gary.

It's my fault. I just read it wrong and got the wrong idea.

I'm very distracted with an argument between the IRS and State Department.

Please accept my apology.
