G W Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Bellevue, Washington — January 3, 2017 Since the launch of Un-carrier T-Mobile’s tackled and solved some of the worst pain points for consumers and businesses, and now, the Un-carrier’s bringing the same approach to the “Internet of Things” (IoT). Today, T-Mobile unveiled two new simple, straightforward, low-cost IoT Access packs with wireless data – and a Category 1 (Cat1) module on us – to help accelerate IoT innovation and eliminate the pain of piecing together wireless IoT solutions. “Like everything they do, the carriers over-complicate the Internet of Things, and that leads to more hassle and cost for customers,” said Doug Chartier, Senior Vice President, T-Mobile. “The wireless industry needs sipler options for IoT to take off, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.” In today’s market, if a device maker wants to create an IoT solution, they must buy a wireless module from one vendor then negotiate to purchase an overpriced data plan from a carrier – all before bringing their solution to market. That doesn’t encourage IoT development. It only helps line the carriers’ pockets, while stifling innovation and slowing time to market. With T-Mobile’s IoT Access packs, new and existing customers can get everything they need – including modules and data – to develop the next great IoT solution. For applications that use a little data, customers can get up to 5MB of data per month for $20 per year per device in the first year and just $6 per year per device afterwards. For unlimited data at 64kbps, it’s just $25 per year per device, and for a limited time, these customers get $5 off the first year for each device. With both T-Mobile IoT Access packs, T-Mobile will cover the cost of a Sequans Cat1 module, via a bill credit from T-Mobile, up to $16 per module. https://newsroom.t-mobile.com/news-and-blogs/iot-access-packs.htm

Scottmichaelj Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Sweet. I see GPS trackers as a perfect fit for the 64kbps unlimited data for $25/year... Also, drone telemetry... Wondering if the HAI C3 would work or just internet? EDIT: 01/07/17 Before Gary posted this I saw this: https://connectedwor...w-to-2g-sunset/ So today I did some digging and made a call to T-Mobile after seeing on their website saying showing $3 a month for 30 mins of talk talk or 30 messages and that 2G would still be available with them until at least 2020. https://prepaid-phon...m/pay-as-you-go So it cost me only $3.99 for the Sim card, $10 for minutes and $3 for the first month. $16 TOTAL, no activation fees, no credit checks, no contracts, NO BS. Once I get the sim card and test Ill report back, but don't expect any issues. This will allow me to keep my current working hardware (HAI/Leviton C3) and not have to do anything and my monthly fee going from $9.99 to $3 a month. One day I will have to do something but procrastinating is working! What will come first hardware will die or 2G options? Time will tell. LOL

However, they have not responded yet. It makes me wonder if T-Mobile is really providing such service or it was a joke. I have 27 industrial devices that need to 2G service since ATT killed 2G service mid-January. Please advise how to contact this department of T-Mobile.
Scottmichaelj Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Please advise how to contact this department of T-Mobile. Because Gary and I both work for them? LOL Did you try calling customer service and ask them to transfer you to that department? They are also responsive via Twitter that may help?
