Many questions on ZWave integration with ELK

Pretty knowledgeable on ELK M1, but new to ISY.  Just added an ISY to home automation system as ran out of ELK rules and maxing out the ZWave node limits on the Leviton VCOP (apparently, it can only handle up to 24 nodes).  Anyways, got the ISY994i-ZW unit and ELK integration module and things seem to be working OK to most extents.  Can see and control ELK "standard" I\O fine from ISY and have access to all the ELK variables.  The ISY ZW setup was very easy and added new nodes to ISY  and I can control those ZW nodes from ISY.

But the problem was accessing those ISY ZW nodes from the ELK lighting list.  The instructions had me export\import the ISY node list, and ELK seems to have accepted them, but nothing happens when I try to control them from ELK.  Nor do I get their status.  The literature wasn't very deep on the technical stuff going on in the background.  So a few questions:

1st: How exactly does the ELK and ZWave work together on the ZWave side?  From the ELK perspective, the lighting I\O looks programmed to control out the ZWave serial expander to the ELK ZW\VCOP modules.  But none of the instructions told me to put either controller on the other's ZW network.  Right now ELK and ISY are both just two separate and independent ZW networks, with their own set of different nodes.  How does the ELK's "lighting" protocols via ZWave get out to the ISY if they're not connected?

And in any case, why can't I control those nodes? what did I miss?

2nd:  I have ZWave outlets that are usually classified as "applicances" in the ELK setup, but these were imported from ISY as "on\off switches".  Does that matter?

Finally, the node import file included the following: <type>4.16.1.0</type>  which I assume defines the type of Zwave device.  Is there documentation that lists what each digit means?

Thanks in advance.

Hi casadosol,

From ELK perspective, there's really no difference between a Z-Wave or INSTEON switch. ISY abstracts it out into lighting devices to which you can send on/off. These should NOT go into the I/O section or anything else.

It really does not matter what ELK calls something. Again, for ELK, everything you import from ISY are lighting devices (on/off).

If nothing is happening, then I suspect some type of communication issue between the two.

With kind regards,

Michel
